I found time to have a look at it again at the weekend. The only thing I did was remove the impeller jug and blow really hard through it, both ways, to make it spin fast. It seemed a bit freer after that, so maybe there was a bit of grit in there or something. Because when I put it back in and tried the machine, it worked! At least if it goes again, I know it will only cost me £20 to replace that part.

it seldom is the bit that spins that causes the problem

i used to remove the board and swop the reed switch that normally fixed the problem. By blowing fast you were activating the reed very fast and it may have improved the contacts but it wont last

I thought I’d leave it a while before posting again but I replaced the impeller jug for £17 nearly 2 months ago and it’s worked fine ever since, through daily washes. I’m confident it is fixed now.
