Bosch SGS5002GB/01 drain problem

Good evening

I bought my Bosch dishwasher 2nd hand about a month ago, and it has been working fine. Today, however it has not pumped out, leaving a couple of inches above the food strainer. It was also making a noise during the pump out time; sounding like a slipping gear. I thought that maybe the impellor was splined onto the motor shaft and that it may be slipping.

I have emptied the water with a cup and basting syringe, and have exposed the drain pump impellor. The impellor seems to be secure on the shaft, I can feel the motor magnet as I rotate it. I have checked it is moving correctly and that there is nothing caught, including invisible glass(!) To check that the impellor is moving, I have tricked the door latch and watched. What I noticed was that the spray from the impellor (a small amount of water having trickled back into the sump) when the pump was started, would sometimes show a clockwise motor direction and sometimes a counterclockwise direction. Is this normal? The noise mentioned above is only occuring sometimes(with and without the pump cover fitted).

I have just discovered the non-return valve. (I thought mine didn’t have one.), so I have taken it out and reseated it.

Any thoughts on the cause of the noise and the direction of the motor would be much appreciated.

One last question. My unit has a 2 part food filter, the horizontal silver grill and the centre cylindrical one, but I notice that the on-line bosch parts manual shows a 3 part filter ie with another cylindrical filter. Is that a later fitment and can it be fitted to mine or is mine missing an original part?

Drain pump will quite happily run in either direction. Worn pumps make a “burring” noise, not unlike an electric drill on hammer action (but much quieter!). If there is lateral movement at the impellor, the pump has worn and needs to be replaced with one of these:

You should have three filters – the centre ones come as pair, p/no 170140. You can order them through spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk .

My BOSCH Classixx has the same problem , i have cleaned the plastic matrix with the little red valve in it and flushed through the other part that has the red stick going into it , the pump is making the noises that you describe penguin. I assume therefore that the pump needs replacing,is it fairly straightforward to replace the pump and how do i access it to do this??

As a side note, would a poorly functioning dishwasher potentially be a source of the stomach bugs in our house at the moment??? just a thought!!

No need to remove the door, you can access from front with appliance on its back but you will need to loosen base to wider the access.
We really cannot be anymore specific unfortunately as to the full blow by blow of the repair sorry.

Sounds pretty straightforward, has anyone else on this forum managed to change a pump on a BOSCH successfully? Any tips?

I bought the pump that you recommended and have just fitted it, ( fairly straigforward once I’d sussed which way to twist the old pump to get it out!) . Just ran the dishwasher and there is still an amount of water left in the base of the washer after the cycle. The pump must have been faulty as the new one isnt making the same noises as the old one so I dont think I have wasted my money by buying a new pump from you , but why is there still an inch or so if water in the washer? I checked the pipe at the front of the machine when i took the kicker off to replace the pump and there was no blockage, a little bit of slime in there but no blockage, could I have a blockage elsewhere?

I take it that when you say an inch or so is visible, its actually only visible in the recess after you have removed the filters?
If that is the case then that is correct 😀

well, there is about 1 or 2 cm above the filters .

That is incorrect then.
You will have to look for either a restriction in the internal pipes of the appliance,drain hose or check the outlet pipework where the drain hose goes.
You could always aim the drain hose into a bucket and then empty appliance, if all ok then it can only be where it drains into.

Which pipes could be cblocked, ive checked the side matrix , and the front slimy pipe ,all are ok. where else is there?

Its not un heard of to have weird foreign objects in the water matrix thus causing a restriction ie – cardboard, paper.
Try the bucket test and see how you get on.Other than that I can’t think of anything else.
