Pinky has explained before a couple of times IIRC. Leaving the tub in place and un-hooking just one side is a bit like trying to take the engine out of a Mondeo without removing the bonnet. It takes a matter of moments to lift the tub clear, less time than unbolting a Mondeo bonnet from its hinges I should imagine. The advantage prevents the potential of distorting the tub profile, especially around the salt tank, breaking the water inlet matrix. Allows you full and free access to all the base components AND you can clean the water damage the leakages have created.

ParticipantYou don’t unhook just one side Martin . I do exactly the same as if i was lifting off tub completely with undoing the screws that hold the tub to the sump . Once all the external screws/springs etc have been removed and the motor ‘bungees’ unhooked , you lift the RHS and prop the hinge arm on the base pan. The sump lifts with the tub thus giving enough room to twist off the motor . As usual , it helps with these things once you’ve done a few.
I know engineers that , when replacing an Istantaneous water heater , will tip a machine on its back and take off the base that way but its a method i’ve never really used , much preferring to remove the tub completely , the same as yourself i guess .

Best to take tank off for iwh but it is really not necessary for the motor.
More tricky if its a model with a large heat exchanger on the side otherwise it really is a breeze 😆
Lid off, Sides off. Door skin off, Plinth off. Both screws that go into the front chassis. Right screw at the back.
Lift right side of chassis, pull out right door cord from chassis and put a screw driver or similar in the hole. Now the unit is supported and you should be able to twist and remove the motor in the normal way 😆
Go in with electric drills blazing and you can be do in 25mins otherwise 40 with a cup of tea and full test, Jobs a good goodie 😉

Yeah, yeah, fair enough, point taken, if that way suits you guys then well for you, crack on.
Just one question though: How much longer would you think it would take you to adopt the ‘remove then refit the tub method?’ (minus tea-supping time of course):?

like you say Martin ‘each to there own’..
I regularly take the tank off for iwh but its abit of a ball ache just for a motor 😉 .
Probably only an extra 30min if its a basic appliance but the point being is theirs is no point!! 😆

I’m feeling smug 😳
First time I’ve done one and it worked. I’m surprised the amount of wear on the pump to sump sealing ring but the new one was really tight.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this mammoth task and Martin for the info on how to remove the tank.
