ParticipantMachine is just under 2 yrs old and over the last couple of months it gives a terrible smell when in use, can only describe it as strong urine. Have done all the usual, cleaned everything, boil service wash and it still smells, no smell anywhere when not in use, drums and seals are as clean as a whistle, now run out of ideas and worried if i contact bosch and they come out and say nothing is wrong they will charge me.
Many thanks for reading

Hi Helen,
It’s what you can’t see that will smell and it won’t be a fault on the machine that Bosch can sort.
This may help though: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/fix- … hines.html

Thank you kwatt. I do use ariel gel and will now purchase the powder and do a couple of boil washes with that and see if that helps, will also see if i can find some affresh, i have never heard of it or seen it so hold little hope of finding it but will certainly look, i have used gel for years with previous machine and never smelt anything like this and my last machine was years old. Thank you for the advice and link

Burnt heater terminals or poor wall socket contact can give off a similar ‘whiff’…. 😉

Check the mains plug and the socket visibly, look for any signs of burning, smell the plug. If it is fine then the heater terminals are inside the machine, it is just about possible to see them from underneath with the machine leant back against a wall or cupboard.
The smell from such things is very distinctive, totally different to a detergent/low temp problem, in fact very much as you describe.

We had the same problem with our ISE havign never had the problem before with any machine. We were using eco friendly liquids and no hot was or machine cleaner stopped it. Clothes smelled of it as well, and needed hours on the line to freshen up.
Switched back to powder and it’s been fine ever since. I think we did put a couple of hot washes with bio liquid through, that has enzymes in it which I think are supposed to eat away the smelly stuff.
Now on asda eco powder or Surcare and no problems.

If it is the plug it will be obvious, the heater less so but you can just about see the heater terminals at the bottom of the front of the drum if you look up inside the front of the machine.

thanks saabbafan, b ut this is why i did not think it was from build up as the washing does not smell at all, infact even immediately after opening door there is no smell whatsoever, only smell it whilst on and never after
iadom, will they look burnt out or something, will it be obvious there is something wrong, don’t want to be pulling it out till i definately know what i am looking for and how it should look, as i have never seen it before i need to know what it should be like, i am referring to the heating terminals not the plug or socket lol

Its usually fairly obvious, in most cases the heater terminals have plastic sheaths on the with will be discoloured.

iadom is it the wires that clip onto the heating element?
like in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMYM_j8Uoyk
I am having a problem distinguishing what a heater terminal is 😳

At about 2.45 to 2.50 into that video you can clearly see the heater terminals, they are sheathed in black and dark pink plastic covers.
It is possible to view these from beneath without removing the front panel.
