As I mentioned previously, the two counterweights I replaced both had disintegrated due to faulty composite mix. However this machine, after looking closely at this photo, appears to have failed due to the rubber tub gasket perishing?
The bottom of the concrete weight looks as though some of the rubber has ‘melted’ onto it, similarly the lower section of the gasket behind the clamp ring looks perished?
I wonder if the machine has been subjected to a bleach solution? (i.e. soaking clothing overnight in the machine with liquid bleach added?) Or constant high temp washes with bleach based powder maybe? It therefore has affected that rubber gasket sufficiently to cause ‘shrinkage’ and the clamp ring has become loose as a result?
Just an observation 😉

Hello everyone. Just to conclude this sorry sage – Bosch (Appliance Care) sent out a senior engineer today and has already arranged its replacement. He advised that a band had come loose causing the concrete weight to drop and damage the door and the cables etc. etc.
No hassle or anything fortunately.I said that I had heard that it was one of the worse machines that Bosch had made, and he smiled knowingly……….
So, a happy ending. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Just come across this story of collapsing drum fronts and more than a little nervous as I’ve just repaired one of these Bosch washer dryers, where the front drum seal had been leaking.
The clamp band and bolt were unusable as badly corroded, so I ordered a new clamp band from BSH. I was surprised that the new clamp band came without the bolt and nut, but after a 15 minute call to BSH spares followed their advice to buy a new “cheese head” bolt and nut from B&Q as BSH do not supply it as a spare.
These bolts from B&Q (M6 x 80mm) were £2.79 for a set of 10, they bear no markings and are presumably manufactured in the Far East for a penny each. I could see the bolt bending as I tightened it.
Do these cheap bolts really meet BSH’s tensile strength specification, given they need to support a 20kg weight shaken heavily through perhaps 10,000 10 minute cycles at up to 1200 rpm? I doubt it, and don’t want to suffer the consequences if the bolt snaps in 6 months time thereby destroying the machine and possibly more.
Would BSH hold up their hands and accept responsibility for their “technical” advice if the worst happened. I doubt it, the blame would no doubt fall squarely on the “unauthorised” independent engineer for fitting parts not approved by BSH.
Rant over, I can’t believe BSH can’t supply the correct bolts. There are loads of parts for this machine listed as “screw” and “holder” on the BSH system. Does anyone know if any of these is the one I’m looking for?
