ParticipantAmazing to see a machine of this age still going strong. I had the WFF2001 back in March 1999, when I worked in a Co-Op electrical store. It was discontinued and had a massive discount on the price. Best machine I ever owned. Ending up giving it away two years later as I moved house and what with this being one of only a handful of washing machines which has the door hinged on the right & my luck being what it is, I couldn’t get the door open in the new location and bought a Bosch Maxx which opened on the left.
The Maxx model lasted almost 3-and-a-half years before the brushes wore out in 2004. The machine was covered by an extended warranty and was written off & replaced with a virtually identical machine as they insisted the motor was no good. With the next machine the warranty lapsed, so this time I made sure I changed the brushes at three years old so as not to wear out altogether. By this time I had set up a domestic cleaning service and was using the washing machine on a semi-commercial level, so much so I bought another washing machine so as to share the work. Second lot of brushes wore out sooner than I thought and like the first machine, they took the motor with it. So that was that.
Over the last 15 years I have since owned (new & 2nd hand) Hoover, Hotpoint, Daewoo, Samsung, Whirlpool, Zanussi, and Bosch machines, as well as having used a plethora of machines in peoples homes. I can honestly say I of all of them I never have any that washed as well as the Zanussi Aquacycle, followed by any of the Bosch. The Samsung and Daewoo machines were, in my opinion, dire beyond all words, on many levels. The Samsung was given to me by someone who no longer needed it and has sat in my garage in storage for two years. I think it’s horrid.
Although longevity is often talked about, I have noted that in the homes I clean, people go through all types and brands of appliances at different rates, for whatever reason. I have noted also that many appliances don’t seem to have on-going issues like they used to, rather they seem to work consistently for a few years then just die. Back in my time at the Co-Op we often seemed to be calling engineers out to the same customers over & over again.
For me, I value performance and reliability over longevity. I would not like an appliance which performed poorly for years and years, and / or broke down a lot. I like one that works well for a decent period and then stops. The strangest fault I ever had was on a Hoover where the concrete blocks shattered and fell off the outer drum. I’ve never heard of that happening before.

ParticipantThe machine still leaks.
the machine leaks during the rinse stage of a programme as I watched it happen During the rinse stage of a programme the machine rinses the clothes from the 3 directions, the bottom, the back and lastly by showering water from above. The latter involves spraying the inner glass of the washing machine door with water. It’s during this showering that water trickles out and runs down the front of the machine.
any ideas?

Moderatorare you sure the pump and filter are clear as it sounds like its going into spin with water still inside and forcing it past the seal

ParticipantI will look the pump and filter. But with my own eyes I saw little water coming out, whilst the machine was rinsing. Water cascades on the inner glass door. Whilst cascading, a little water will trickle out from under the centre of the door at the bottom and runs down the front of machine and onto the floor.
i don’t think the water comes out when the machine is spinning.

Moderatorwell you had a new seal fitted by a professional engineer in Jan
since the seal is responsible for sealing the door I would say ask him back. If you were my customer then as long as nothing else in the machine is causing it and if its clean and pumps out ok then it has to be a faulty seal and under some sort of guarantee

ParticipantI’ve removed the kick plate from the bottom and checked the pump area, there’s a small plastic propeller blade which you can turn with your hands . No foreign objects there.
ive taken Dave’s advice and cleaned the inner glass door with a scouring pad.
i wonder what are the chances that the newly fitted door seal is in some way pushing on the inner glass door, creating just a tiny enough gap for water to get through? When the door is closed, if you push it with your hand there is a little bit of give ie you can push the door inwards very slightly and when you let go off the door it very slightly springs back.

Moderatordoor movement is normal and wont cause a problem unless the door is badly twisted on the hinge
if the door seal is pushing out it can only help it to seal more

ParticipantAfter checking the pump area and giving the inner glass door a clean with a scouring pad having previously just used a cloth and glass cleaner, no leak today. Don’t know if it was just a lucky day.

ParticipantMessage to DCA panel. ” The strangest fault I ever had was on a Hoover where the concrete blocks shattered and fell off the outer drum. I’ve never heard of that happening before. ” Sadly in my experience fairly common with more modern Hoover, Zanussi, Hotpoint, even Neff! Concrete is not the best stuff to use for a front weight unless it is sealed in a plastic moulding or the machine is just a slower spin model which are, sadly, not common today. Cast iron is generally much more successful material to use but is more expensive used by, Miele, lg and Samsung ( at least Samsung got that part right! ) just as examples.

ParticipantThis original post is a few years old but in case it’s of use to someone else, I have exactly the same issue, clear water leaking from the underside at front left corner. In my case it is the rubber tube connecting the soap drawer to the drum. At start of wash and during rinse iwater is pumped into the soap drawer then flows via the rubber tube to the drum. The tube is articulated and stretchy but for some reason the top connection the the soap drawer works loose. I’ve replaced it once and it’s worked loose again a week later. I’m off to check is the drum springs and support arms are allowing the drum to move around to much and wrench the rubber tube off in the process. Anyway hope this is useful to someone.
