ParticipantAre you seeing the “emoticon” box, Roly? If so, all you’ve got to do is click the one you want.

You see what happens โ
I leave this thread unattended for a few hours whilst I catch up on my much needed beauty sleep and vandals come in here, spreading graffiti all over the place ๐ฏ

Nope, I quoted the worst case scenario to my customer though! I guess by now she has had it replaced ๐
The lesson learned for me here is that this vintage of machine made by Bosch/Siemens involved huge great PCB’s/Power Boards and fancy stepper timers. These have now evolved into smaller, cheaper, easier to diagnose as faulty and replace Timer/Module Units.
Using the latest direct equivalent as an example, the WFR2860. That has a small, compact Module Control Unit that is sofisticated in the extreme and very reliable to boot (albeit the programmes take forever to complete – try just setting one to DRAIN ONLY to see what I mean it takes 11mins 45 seconds ๐ )
Oh! and it doesn’t have the light that comes on in the drum at the end of the cycle…I guess they gave up on that idea ๐

Ah well, you can’t win them all as the saying goes. At least you’ve learnt something in the process.

Well, well, well….the lady did not replace the machine after all, she didn’t need to in fact…I fixed it!!! 8)
I was never happy with not knowing what the fault was, it was bugging me anyway, so for the first time in all my 30 plus years, I picked it up and brought it home for a closer look in my own time ๐
Of the seven wires that plug into the motor, 5 go to the Power Module and the other 2 go to the Stepper Timer. Having removed the Timer, I spotted a dry joint, tickled it with a hot soldering iron and BINGO…sorted ๐

Well done Martin! Happy outcome for everyone. Lucky you didn’t buy a new board. It shows that it’s always worth looking for dry joints with this sort of problem but it can be time consuming. How many customers want to pay a full labour charge for the time you spend doing that if you don’t find anything at the end of the day/
