ParticipantHi,
I have a Caple C2218 single fan oven. The LCD displays the time which I have set but the oven functions will not heat the oven, the fans do not work, the oven light does not work and the light indicator on front of oven does not illuminate.
I know it is probably not worth repairing but it is bugging the hell out of me since I now have the back off and Ive been figuring bits and pieces out.
I have tried with a multimeter taking readings of the back of the function selector switch, but always 0v as I click through the selections. I also tested the back of the thermostat on the back of the heat selector dial with 40v off, then as it clicks to call for heat 0v.
Not sure if any of this helps? Any ideas. This is more a project that anything else and would be useful to simply identify the cause of fault even if I don’t fix it.
Thanks.

KeymasterAre you sure it’s not on auto?
If the timer is on an auto function you’d get what you describe.

ParticipantHmmm, there is an icon that looks like ‘heat’ which is illuminated as soon as the oven has power. I don’t seem to be able to turn that off. I did already try cycling through the auto and semi auto modes and the word Auto shows in the display when I do so.

from what you say your missing a live
check the clock first. there is a relay in the clock that controls the power to the oven. when you set to manual it should close and alow power to get to the selector sw. if this is the fault you can link it out to save buying a clock
after that its a selector sw problem most likely

ParticipantThis is the back of the clock:

The relay is the white plastic box if I am not mistaken? Any tips on how to test this, I am thinking I might disconnect the right most blue wire (which has 2 wires) and check for a voltage there?
Thanks in advance.

Moderatorfastest way link the 2 blue wires together and if it runs its the clock

ParticipantOk so unplug the two blue wires on the left and making those to by-pass the relay?

ParticipantBy passing the the relay and the oven functions work! Does this suggest the relay itself is the problem or could it be something else on the circuit board?
Seems to be a cheap part to replace – although will require removal of the board and re-soldering which I can handle.
Thanks for the help!

Moderatorrelay could be the problem or the clock is not energising it
or if you dont use the clock remove the clock board and solder some heavy wire across the bock of the terminals
clock will then show time but you cant use auto on the oven

ParticipantI’ve ordered a replacement relay, I’ll report my finding once I have fitted and tested it.
On another note, there is what looks like fan to extract heat on the exterior of the oven at the back (not the internal circulating fan). How is this triggered? I suspected the thermal cut out – I tried disconnecting the two wires which I guess is what happens when the normally closed (?) thermal switch hits the rated 220c to make it open?
Thanks.

Moderatorit will either be controlled by a pcb or a normally open thermal sw

ParticipantI figured the fan out, there is a thermostat (normally open) which fires the fan when the temperature hits it’s threshold.
I have changed the relay but it didn’t fix the main issue, I’ve check the capacitors and resistors they “look” ok and seem to give expected readings with my multi-meter.
There isn’t that much to the PCB:

I’ve removed these two safety capacitors which do not give any readings, I believe they protect the circuit.

The PO mentioned something about a power surge which caused the issue, so perhaps this is the fault. They are cheap as chips so have ordered replacements.

Moderatorthe grey one will provide power to the circuit so might well be faulty
changed load of those

ParticipantGreat – seems as if I might be onto something here at last then!
