ParticipantNot sure if you can do this or not, but thought I would ask 😀
My machine has been diagnosed as needing a new motor and is uneconomical to repair.
It was a Siemens and I was very happy with it. I have young family and so use the machine a lot. My criteria would be:
spin speed 1000 or more
6-7kg load
quiet!
reliable, of courseprice – looking for good value, but don’t mind paying a bit more if its worth it.
thank you!

Stay with the German brands such as Siemens and Bosch (both part of the same group). Siemens base model comes with a five year warranty 7kg load and 1400 spin.
Bosch have a two year guarantee. While these are not quite as high spec as the Siemens they are good all round work horses. Most have a 6kg load and the odd one has a large 7kg load. Spin speeds are from 1200 to 1600.
If you want to go the extra mile then the Miele range, the build and quality is superb. These come with a minimum 2 year guarantee on base models up to a 10 year guarantee on the top of the range machines. Prices from £550 to about £1000. 6kg machines are available with spin speeds from 1200 to 1600 as well.

i always recommend hoover they do 6, 7, and 8kg machines all come with a 5 year parts guarantee.
the slowest spin speed is 1200.
alot cheaper than any of the german machines and alot cheaper and easier to fix.type bosch in the search engine 2387 topics, type hoover 1111 topics,
this would either mean there are more faulty bosch appliances than hoover or bosch are more difficult to repairApril 20, 2007 at 7:28 pm #211299jeremy

compare the cost of a siemens motor to that of a hoover, i can put a new motor on a hoover machine cheaply but i could sell a hoover machine for the cost of a siemens motor.
once again lets knock british and wonder why the factories are shut,
do you think germanwhitegoods.de are promoting anything but german ,of course bosch are now being manufactured in china.April 20, 2007 at 9:37 pm #211302helo_75

PS. I have installed 73 ISE machines in just over 12 months, had only one component failure in all that time. 8)

Getting back to the question asked by our reader – Marge – Take your time but look for the amount of time covered by the guarantee. You should be looking for a minimum of two years parts and labour and as you have a young family spend that little bit more. Good choice in my opinion is the ISE, 5 year parts and labour and under £500 fully installed, old one taken away and demostration of its workings by the engineer.
