But Ken for godness sakes 😉 .I did ne think you let anyone south of the border sample a wee dram of the real pure golden nectar, thought you wanted it all for yourselves.

If you can find a bottle, which is unlikely, The Macallan 1892 is just a bit pleasant. 😉

    Cost £90 a bottle though! 😕

Apart from that I’ll gladly consume virtually any malt, bourbon, vodka, rum, brandy, wine…basically anything except beer or lager, hateful stuff.

Favourites for sitting at the PC are definately Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Canadian Club, Wild Turkey (101 if I can get it), Makers Mark…the list is endless! 😀

The reason is I can put mixers in them so they last longer than a malt does. 😉

May I ask who passsed that information on to Ted as he was slumped in a chair by 9.30 mumbling something about rum and cabin boys 😆

I’ve done a little research into this whisky thing, well someone had to & I thought I’d volunteer.

Avoid any that says pure malt, it is a blend of malts. O.K. but not the real thing. Famous Grouse is for the tourists. Of the popular ones, Glenmorangie & Glenfiddich aren’t bad but is down to individual taste.

Try & look for an Island one, and definitely Single Malt. Talisker is good and if you can get it, Laphroaig. 17years is a good age on most, but you would be hard pushed to tell if it was a 12 year old.

Do not add anything, I get strange looks when I decline water/ice etc. Whats the point of having the stuff if you are going to dilute it.

If anyone north of the border can give us some more ideas, then I’m willing to beta test them and review accordingly.

If you fancy a bit of the Irish, try Bushmills.

A good friend of mine worked for one of the ditilleries up here, Grants, and they own the Balvenie amongst others. He was sat talking to the head taster of the Balvenie one day who is reputedly older than God with a big red konk, anyway I digress, he said of drinking whisky…

“Don’t know why all those plonkers don’t put some ice or a splash of water in it, without it it tastes like fookin’ petrol!”

When it comes down to it I’ll trust him and stick with my ice in it. 😉

I agree though, I prefer the island malts as well for some reason, not that I complain about the others mind. 😀

The IRC server seems to have gone tits up this morning 🙁

Even running it as a separate programme doesn’t work.

Post later when it’s back up.

Sorted, it appears that Kyle (aka bagpuss_the_cat) trashed his server this morning. Nice of him to let me know. 😕

Anyway switched to Andy’s server in Holland, problem solved.

Dave, change the server to nl.nixhelp.org (or uk2) and you’ll get on okay. 😉

Remember the fun starts tonight around 9ish, but I’ll be a bit later since I have to go to some silly Xmas bash. 🙁

Can you tell I’m chuffed to bits at the thought? 😉

    Re: Chitter Chatter

Don’t forget the live chat is available all day, every day. Ken and I are normally there all the time during the week, so if you have any questions you want answered quickly about the site or just fancy a quick chat, click on the “live chat” link on the navigation bar to the left 😀

To see the users already there, they will be listed on the right hand side, if you see “Lynchpin” that is Ken, no idea why though 😕 Thebot is just a little programme that keeps the chat alive if no-one is there. All the others are users of the site, and will be their log-in names, except I shortened mine to just Dave in there.

If you want to look around the site while chatting, hover you’re mouse pointer over the link, right click, then select open in a new window.

It does take a little while to load the irc chat, so hang on till it loads completely, it gets there eventually. Oh, and if you get a security warning, click on “yes”, it’s perfectly normal and safe.

    Re: Chitter Chatter

One thing I forgot to mention, once you are in the live chat window you can’t navigate away as it will close the connection, which is why it is best to open a new window for chat only and keep the main site open for browsing.

    Dave.
