ParticipantI am sure this has been covered before. But I looked up an oven switch on Connect part 3570700017 and it came up as £29.02 plus VAT so its £34.82. Now if I don’t reach the free postage then its another £7.95, so total £42.77. Their suggested selling price £45.98.
I then checked online and found the same switch on ebay for £18.56 with free delivery!
So obviously I bought from ebay, a company called wowdiscount ltd. When it arrived to my horror it had the connect label on it, so I checked wowdiscount ltd and to my disgust it was Connect!!!
So Connect sell to the public cheeper than we get.I have written to them to complain

KeymasterThis has been discussed before and yes, WOW Discount, Buy Spares, eSpares and a slew of others are all Connect.
And yes, you’re often being ripped off.

ModeratorAs also mentioned before it’s also worth googling part numbers before ordering from so called trade suppliers.

ParticipantI accept that theses suppliers have a chance to also supply to the general public, but as in my example, its the price diference which annoyed me. Are we subsidising them supplying parts to the public?
Still awaitting their response.May 31, 2022 at 9:14 am #482438electrofix
Moderatoryou probably wont get one
but if you come to the next whitegoods conference which they have attended in the past you can have a go face to face, that could be funDave

ParticipantWhat is the Electrolux part number of this part? There are 4 a variants on Connect at widely differing prices, listed as alternatives. Maybe the WOW listing was for one of these alternatives?

looking at the alternatives they look like different switches so maybe Connect got it wrong

ParticipantThe part that was supplied was in the genuine elux labled packet, part number 3570700017 which is the part number from the Electrlux site.
I have written to Connect but as yet no reply.June 9, 2022 at 10:07 pm #482442stratfordgirl
ParticipantWell, it looks like Connect have taken some action – the Wow Discounts price on ebay has now gone up to £40.46. The cheapest on ebay now is Ransom Spares, but I suspect like many things they list, they don’t actually stock it, so might not be able to honour that price.
Electrolux’s current list price is £32.18+vat, so Connect’s price not too kuch out of line.

KeymasterIt was an old price, there’s a lot like that just now as price inxcreases of late have been all over the place. I think just with all that’s going on in the world.
A Bosch module the other day went from £90 RRP to £190 RRP, it can be brutal.

Moderatormust be a bit of a headache to keep site prices current with whats going on
how do you stand if a customer orders a part and the price on the site means you make a loss ?

KeymasterComplete nightmare and prices have been volatile for at least six months, random changes, random amounts not one that you can say, oh BSH (for example) has put price up by 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. It’s all over the place.
The law changed, due to TVs many moons ago and the order isn’t deemed to be “accepted” now until it is checked and the retailer basically processes it. Up until that point it can’t be taken as read that it will be honoured, hence the stuff about it on most sites buried in the T&Cs. But in essence, you as a retailer have the ability to “within a reasonable time” inform the buyer that the price has changed and allow them to make a choice on paying the extra or cancelling.
Most cancel it in a huff, then go off and find they pay more for it due to them taking the huff over it. People are strange.
Or they find someone that has old stock or is just plain dumb and loses money on it.

ModeratorI was lucky years ago. someone advertised a Kodak digital camera for £100 when it should have been £300. They tried to back out but in the end gave in and sent them as it was deemd at the time to have been accepted. Must have cost them thousands
from memory it was around 2001

KeymasterYup, that one and a later error, I think on Currys or Argos with TVs instigated a change in the law that makes complete sense, the basic premise is that if you walked. into a shop the retailer could check but remotely online the retailer can’t check th eprice at the point of sale and much is automated or not curated by the very nature of online selling. Hence the change.
Now you virtually never see that but back then, people would go hunting for those sorts of errors and exploit them or try to.
