ParticipantHello,
Having problems trying to do a repair on the above dryer.
Original fault was no heat.
I found that the lower temp stat (red dot) was open circuit.
Fitted a new stat kit, dryer heating ok.
1 week later customer reports no heat again, on investigating I found the 95c
stat was open circuit again.
Are the two stats at the back of these dryers just one time only safety toc’s ?
If so where is the temp control stat?Any help gratefully recieved.

The pair of stats must always be replaced as a pair. 1701583
The control stat is at the twelve oclock position above the door access and trips at 58 degrees.
The usual reason for the one shot stat failing is the customer opening the door during the drying cycle, however it usually takes more than a week for this to happen so I would investigate further.
There is a lot of information on this site about this problem. Have a probe about using the search feature. You’re not alone…

Are you fitting the correct stats to this machine, the red spot stat should be a 120° stat, not a 95° one. The other stat is the temp control stat. There is also another stat in the door surround.
The correct kits are as follows.Date code less than 65 (red spot 120° ) kit 1701557
Date code more than 65 (green spot 130° ) kit 1701583
you should ensure that the customer is keeping the filters and the heat exchanger clean and also not opening the door mid cycle, you must allow the 10 minute cool down period to run its course.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Still need to know if the two rear toc’s are both one shots to protect the dryer or 1 is a protector and the other temp control.November 7, 2005 at 9:30 pm #153329Penguin45

Got a problem with this Walnut – you may have fitted the right cut-out, you may not have. You should have checked the date code or the colour spot on the the stats and replaced them as a set. If you search the forums, you will find that these are a recurrent problem, usually caused by customer misuse; so education is usually the solution. However, it can be caused by a faulty control stat, so you may well be seeing your customer again, sooner than you think.
Gret the right kit in the van ready for next time.
Chris.

Thanks for the advice. The only reason Hotpoint don’t do this is because they are making a fortune on these stat kits. Other manufacturers fit manual reset stats as standard so why don’t they? It does show the huge difference between manufacturers attitudes. Crosslee for instance often have their resetable easily accessable on the rear panel for the user. Zanussi use a resetable on many of their m/c but hide it under the heater access panel so most people will still call an engineer for the problem.
Having said that from our point of view they are nice little earners so not complaining!

Reversing timer sticking also gives cause to tripping plus check float chamber for sticking float, as this will often cause no heat but will not affect stats.
I am sure this has all gone down on a pre thread. ❓ -
