Were not sure how this happend , but hay it dont look good 🙁 . as we are the retailer we are the 1st to get it from the customer , its 8 months old
were do we stand with this . We are in contact with crosslee atm just asking
questions , to see iff any one has come across this , and what we need to do ..phil

on a serious note, id get crosslee to come down and independantly inspect it.
but my initial suspicion would be what looks to be a lack of a filter and fluff build up in the element that caught and embers transferring to clothes inside???
your first course of action should be to get the customer a loan machine asap whilest the cause is investigated. as long as there is a room left that its got to go back in.
this means the customer is not on your back, and you can also use this as an exampe of your excellent customer care should solicitors get involved. the other thing to remember is that if they were in the house, they would have smelt burning obviously, and therefore should have been able to stop the machine before it got that bad. (pull the plug/ isolatation switch/fusebox, then bucket of water…???)
either way i imagine they will be claiming on the house insurance, who will then claim off of crossless insurance *assuming its a manufacturing fault* as a retailer is responsable for the goods they sell, they may well try to claim compensation but i think they have to prove that what you sold them was dangerous which requires independant report rather than you having to prove the machine wasnt at fault.

if the clothes inside had went on fire the door would be in a worse state,

not sure about timer, looking at the way flames appear to have started from bottom right though,
fag been dropped in front of the t/d onto recyling in the utility room instead ?

I had a condenser dryer flare up a few years ago in a pub where they were washing chef’s whites and kitchen wipes.
The drying load went up in flames as the door was being opened and had they not closed the door immediately it would have been toast.
There was nothing wrong with the dryer and it survived.
Because the drying air is recirculated residues of cooking fats in the drying load are not removed and can become flamable if the door is opened at the wrong time.

Edit. The facia has melted down the front of the machine but the door is relatively undamaged so must have been open when the fire staarted.

thats a thought, where was the appliance ? kitchen, utility or garage??
if garage, was their any petrol/white spirit spilt nearby??

I’m no fire expert but what’s behind the front panel at the lower right hand side?
From the picture there’s been a bit of heat there to make the paint peel off and give the scorching. And, since fire and heat tends to rise…
Without getting into the box there’s probably no way to be reasonably sure how it happened. But, to me from the pictures, it wasn’t the clothing that went up or the door would be non-existent.
As the retailer the responsibility lies with you but the customer and/or insurer will probably go after Crosslee as they’ll be fully aware that they will have deeper pockets than you do. Plus, all you’d do is then go after your supplier who’d then go after Crosslee, in any event it will end up with them I’d imagine.
I take it that the Bosch was the washer sat beside it?

More likely the dryer was stacked on top of it without a stacking kit?

I have had this before.. albeit a very long time ago… As I remember, the cause was the motor overheating the wiring and the wiring set alight.. and it was on a crosslee type whirlpool dryer.

I would have thought the fire service would have been called, they would do a forensic investigation to pin point the ignition place and if any excellerants were used. If they dont know about it , i would give them a call because i think all is not what it seems, could a container of a flammable liquid have been on top that has spilled down the front and ignited?

Update
crosslee are not messing around there dropping a new dryer off today .
after reading kwatts post had a little look at it , it looks like the motor thats gone up in smoke . the bosch was at the side of the dryer , in a
utility room , not much in it other than washing baskets and a pile of clothes , Loan machine at the ready waiting for dryer to turn up 🙂
customer well happy so far 🙂 they have been a loyal customer for 20 odd years …Re: crosslee whitenight may have a problem 🙁
i once heard of a fire being caused in a dryer by a cigarette lighter being left in a pocket

Went to a crosslee dryer today…shes only used it twice and is smell fishey….but it only smells fishy inside the drum. No smell on outside only when the door is opened you smell it strong like shes trying to dryer prawns..I had the complete thing dismantled and reassembled no reason why it smells fishy its so bad apparently the clothes reek of it ..Could be away of defrosting a bags of prawns??
