ParticipantI know ya gotta take the rough with the smooth in this game and every customer is different BUT.
Went to a house today to look at indesit washing machine,Customer complaint was still half full of water,OBVIOUS blockage or alien obstruction i would of thought so before i opened my toolbox he asks how much do i think it will cost.
I said i can probably fix it now for £40 to which he shouted to the wife and she replied will have to wait as they dont have £40.
So i said ok as u really are only a couple of mile away from were ive come from i will do it as a one off charge of £30, shouts to the missus who replies…will have to wait until she has £30
Now can someone explain to me what the foook people would ring for to have something fixed wether it be a domestic appliance or TV or whatever if they don’t even have a measley amount that is £30.
Are we running a charity or what??

No call out charge?
To be honest, if you do free call outs then you have to expect this I’m afraid.
I stopped doing free call outs years ago because of these type of people.

No i normally charge £30 regardless if BER or needs a part and they dont want to go ahead anyhow, But lets be honest £30 callout or not, How would they pay it if they say they don’t have it?
They didnt ask if it was FREE EST when they rang, Just booked it in then gave me that crap! But anyhow, if they aint willing or don’t have £30 why the hell ring ANYONE in the first place.
Just cheek if you ask me

I got wise to this, now unless I know the customer I ask them if they would like to know my charges, I then get to explain I won’t work for nothing.
If they don’t like it I suggest they look for someone who does free estimates and wish them luck!

It does make you wonder what these people do in the end. I suppose they find a friend / relative / neighbour who will have a go. 😕

I find it’s best to say “probably” over the phone rather in their house. Often symptoms given over the phone and estimate given saves all that cost, hastle, embarrassment and anger of walking out their front door with nowt.
Very often their address and the type of machine they own can ring alarm bells. It’s not all posh houses down here either you know, oh no, and some areas of Reading and Basingstoke challenging in more ways than one.

Its the modern way of doin business.
There is no guilt, there is no recourse and they have the attitude that “I’ll do what I want, when I want attitude”.
I did a quote of £35.00 to an Asian gentlemen to fit his Servis W/m door seal.
On arrival the hole was the drain tube :rolls: there was nothing wrong with the door seal, the leak was coming from his drippin water pipes, too which I tightened, tested appliance just to be sure and then wrote bill out for the agreed £35.00 total time at property 40 minutes.
But I’m not paying you as you haven’t done anything, he still never paid me and I’ve written asking for payment before issuing a County summons.
Although when I was packing up my tools I needed to retrieve my torch and i noticed a crack on his module, I have no idea how his module got damaged.
Who was it that stated every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
Or if you can’t beat them, join them.

I haven’t been on much lately.
In my experience Asian people don’t pay as willingly as other nationalities. like the Irish. 😆
Yes I’m also a bigot and anti gay, lifetime member of the BMP, Combat 18 and any other racial hate group that is willing to fight for the UK.

I don’t think Lee was intending to say ALL Asians don’t pay up but I have to say from personal experience that SOME, especially in Greater London, are rather reluctant to pay the agreed price for spurious reasons.
Having said that, this is not something that you say is unique to any particular group of people as human nature is such that people will use any edge to their advantage. Colour, race, religion, whatever is irrelavant.
Peace & love people. Good & bad in all. Yin & Yang.
