Would not worry to much about trading standards, I had one of these nutters about 5 years ago who wanted me to repair a twenty year old cooker, tried to put her off as it was needing rewired and a few other things.

I made good the cooker as far as was possible at the time.

The upshot was she pestered me for weeks about this that and the next thing, i explained i did not think it was worth spending any more time and money on her cooker.

Then out of the blue a call from the trading standards,”do you know a mrs. wots her name?”

Sure do! I said be for we go any further could you tell me from the conversation you had with her do you think she is a nutter?
The trading standards officer said 😳 well YES!
    End of story. 😆

hang up…. if a customer swears abusively i do hang up straight away. then ring back about 20 mins later and ask if they have calmed down…if they continue to be abusive then it is definately good night.ps under some clause in the telegraph act it is an offence to swear or use profanities or offensive words or voice threats over the phone.

A very valued long term customer of mine who works in trading standards has always told me 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the local business’s she deals with after receiving a complaint about them turn out to have done nothing wrong & are more than willing to help resolve a dispute.
The average member of the public however is a whole different ball game she said.. i think i can guess what she means :rolls:

And oh yes, the duff bulb after a fridge stat change :rolls: been there a few times. Some people, im afraid, are just ITCHING for an excuse to be a total pain or avoid payment, this will never change. 🙁

    Re: Dealing With “Call Backs”

Had a call near to there this morning, only across the road, that customer told me she saw my van and got my number from it, so I got a good call out of it after all. 😉

She told me it was a problem family, police always calling to domestics etc bailiffs there a month ago took their car away after calling for police back up. I did not mention my misfortune with them until after she had told me they were trouble.

I’ve not heard any thing from them, and if trading standards call me I’ll resolve it with them, I doubt I’ll hear any more from them to be honest.

I don’t normally hang up on customers, but she was abusive for some time before I’d had enough and put the phone down.
