As you are Trade yes, because you are “doing work” on a gas appliance” even though its the electrical side 😯
Daft as it is if it were your own house you can basically do what you want with gas :rolls:
If I were you I would be very carefull because if you do the repair and say a gas problem occurs in the near future, the finger will point at the last person to work on the appliance, namely YOU and it could have serious consequences.
It ain’t worth the hassle for the sake of a few quid mate 😉Greg

greg, this area of work seems to be a complete fog. do i as a trade engineer fit an elecrtical part to a dual fuel appliance, even though a corgi registered engineer is in attendance, who will do a gas safety check after i have finished fitting the part, ie a function switch, which the corgi guy wont/can’t fit? guidance and advice PLEASE. i know that if a gas fault occurs in the future…how long is the future….1week, 1 year…5 years? then the last engineer to work on the appliance is in the frame, also is it true that if there is ANY gas fault on ANY gas fitting in the entire house then, even if i repaired a dual fuel range cooker , i could be held resposible, 5 years hence for a gas leak on a combi boiler, gas fire in an upstairs bedroom etc etc…this situation has very serious implications…where do we/i stand on dual fuel appliances? 😕

Hi
Simple really, if you are not Corgi don’t do it, end of.
I know you are only doing the electrical part but in their eyes you are working on a gas appliance without the suitable qualification and god help you if the HSE get involved 😯Greg

greg, thanks for post and advice.. i will tell customer and corgi guy of the position… so i’ll back out. which begs the question…who will fix the cooker?
with regard to liability…who is liable 1, 3, 5, 10 years in the future for a fix on a gas appliance…is it the last guy who worked on a cooker, boiler, gas fire in the house and then a fault develops on an appliance not associated with the repair?

I think if you are Corgi and can prove that at the time you did everything by the book then you should be ok. Its a bit like the MOT really, you can have the MOT one day and the next day the wheel could fall off 😯 . Basically, on that given day the appliance and installation were sound, thats it really, otherwise it would go on forever. 😀

Hang on, if you’ve got the CORGI chap present, he’s going to sign off the gas side after you’ve finished, isn’t he?
Don’t see the problem.

Very grey area Chris and TBH most probably wouldn’t as they would be liable for the other guys work and the whole installation 😕

talked to a HSA person this morning, explained all the circumstances..opinion was…to cover me and my work i’ll get a form printed off which will be worded ..to the effect .that the appliance, name, model, serial no. has been fixed electrically and following the fix has been tested by a registered CORGI engineer and signed off as safe to use..
this would seem to solve the problem as far as HSA regs and guidence go.
how does this line feel with you guys??
if you feel it’s ok would any other non CORGI engineers faced with a dual fuel be interested in this modus operandi?October 11, 2007 at 8:45 pm #229896helo_75
Participantyes, its a grey area, and penguin does have a point
the corgi issue is, and always will be about the final safety check of the appliance, although, according to the handbook, you should still be knowledgeable about gas appliances
thats where the ccn 1 and ckr module come in
does cover you, and as a matter of interest, your corgi fitter is capable of such a repair..im just not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure that as your not corgi registered, and its you/your company that charges and actually carries out the work, the burden will lay at your door
thing is, if your corgi fitter is competent (which im sure he is, its just the word they use) then the drop/safety test should deem the household in a safe condition, so , again, itll always be open to debate
first day of your corgi course, they always run throught the safety aspect, with all the horror stories being thrown at you, complete with pictures, and its quite unnerving
house of horrors covered this some time ago, and at any one given time while your carrying out the repair, the customer can, and is urged to ask you if your corgi registered, and you should have your card with you to show at any stage of the work, should it be requested, and house of horrors did use that as there main plan of attack
basically what they did, was get this guy out to fix a boiler, and they knew he wasnt corgi registered.. they waited till he removed 1 panel, and they jumped on him… he said he had a corgi guy to check it, but it was not important to them, since he was doing the work.. illegal!
so, on that cooker, you have to take the hobtop off, and youll then be repairing an appliance… what if the customer then asks you for your corgi card? yep, your breaking the law!! simple, unfair, but thats the way it is
does that make sense?
sorry to throw a spanner in the works btw
