ParticipantI hope someone can help – my dishwasher developed F4 fault yesterday which I gather might be something to do with a blockage or kink in the pipe?? After resetting and trying the cycle again the fault is now showing as FA (think this might be due to too water in there??).
Can someone offer an help for: 1) the orginal fault 2) advice as how to drain the water manually from the machine.
One other thing I should mention is that we have a waste disposal unit that has some shared pipework, and my husband replaced this (waste disposal unit) on Sunday. Coincidence? Probably not.
Can anyone help?January 23, 2007 at 9:36 pm #202049Penguin45

Holding down the button will cancel the programme and should run the drain pump for one minute. If the machine drains into a spigot shared with the macerator, check that it is not still blanked off.

Computer thinks machine is not draining. If start button pressed for 5 secs to reset does the dishwasher empty?

Can I ask what do you mean by emptying? – how can I tell if it has water to drain in the first place?

Hi
Normal fill level is just below lower spray arm, half way up its mount.
After the re-set, the appliance pumps out for app 1 min. When the pumping sound ceases, open door and there should be no water above filters in the base only a small amout in sump if you remove filters.Greg

The machine appears to drain OK. I had left the machine for a couple of days and some water had accumulated in the bottom by the filter. When I pressed and held the restart button I could hear the water draining away and upon inspection the level had dropped to that described above i.e. just a little bit at the bottom of the filter – so it appears to drain OK. What next?

Anybody got any more suggestions?

Well I got a local engineer to have a look at the machine and his analysis proved quite interesting!
Within a few minutes of me describing the symptoms and he observing them he diagnosed a split hose on the main wash pump. He knew this without even inspecting the machine because every single person that had this machine had experienced the same problem!. Sure enough when he got the pump out there was a split about 2 ” long around the rubber hose (explains why water was going where it shouldn’t!).
Furthermore, he claims it’s a “known” design fault as the hose is not manufactured to a high enough spec and can’t handle the load put on it. He claimed that Whirlpool are fully aware of this problem but are chossing not to do anything about their manufacturing process!
He reckoned the part would be around £150 ( the hose cannot just be detached and replaced because it is an integral part of the pump) but recommended I complain direct to Whirlpool on the grounds of “not fit for purpose”.
I will let you know how I get on.
