ParticipantI have some Tesco vouchers close to expiry and since they have their “Boost” on at the moment, where the vouchers are worth twice their face value, I’d like to exchange them for a new dishwasher. The only snag is that the machines included in the “Boost” are somewhat limited and not ones I would ordinarily buy, so I would like some advice. Basically, the choice is between:
1 – Indesit DFG15B1
2 – Hotpoint HFED110P
3 – Hotpoint FDYB11011P
4 – Hotpoint FDFEX11011P
5 – Hotpoint FDUD51110PI prefer the features of no.4 (Hotpoint FDFEX11011P), especially the 30 minute wash option and time remaining display, but wonder if a non-electronic machine would have less to go wrong with it, bearing in mind that these are lower end machines? No.3 (Hotpoint FDYB11011P) or No.1 (Indesit DFG15B1) would probably be my next choice. Although both Hotpoint and Indesit offer a ten year parts guarantee, that only applies if you use their labour force at £129 call out! 🙁 Therefore, I would like the most reliable machine or one that could be repaired easily by an independent engineer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks. 🙂

since all of these machines are made by the same company there is not a lot to choose from. parts if needed should not be a problem
you say about non electronic machines but am not sure if any are availableone thing i would do is make sure you can switch the machine off from the socket when not in use. not only does it reduce any fire risks but can extend the life of the timer

Thank you for your reply, Dave. 🙂
By non-electronic, I was referring to the first 3 machines having no electronic or LED display – unlike the last 2 that display information on options chosen and time etc. Would they be more likely to develop faults?
The price range is from £209 to £379, so do you really get what you pay for or are they much the same in that range?
Thanks for the useful tip about the socket position – my socket actually is behind the machine at the moment! :/

electronics by itself is quite reliable so with or without display does not matter
the reason for switching it off is these machine dont turn off, they go into standby so are powered 24 /7 unless they are switched off at the socket.
as for the price i would guess all the main components are the same and it may be refinements inside that gives the price difference
also prices are a bit out
using AO
DFG15B1 ao 188
HFED110P 218
FDYB11011P 224
FDFEX11011P 247FDUD51110P 379 the only one tesco is in the ball park
see if they can price match first

As Dave says, they are all basically very average Indesit produced machines with exactly the same mechanicals inside. Those are suspect electronics, main circulation pump and heaters that fail on a regular basis with quite flimsy wiring in the door as well. 🙁

Many thanks for all your replies.
So there is basically no difference between them, and price difference is not an indicator of quality?
Is it actually worth me exchanging vouchers for any of them then or will I live to regret it? If it wasn’t for the “Boost” event I wouldn’t have considered them, but since it makes them half price I am tempted. What do you recommend?
Thank you 🙂

if you actually do a compare on the tesco website there is very little difference
one is louder, one has more programmes
go for the cheapest one you like the look ofDave

Given the seriously bad publicity Hotpoint/Indesit/Whirlpool have had it is a surprise to me why anyone would think if buying such rubbish.

The only other options in the “boost” event are:
Russell Hobbs RHDW2
Sharp QW-S221472W
Sharp QW-S221472WAre they any better?

But then so is Russell Hobbs, Kenwood, Hotpoint, Hoover etc, etc. All now average to very poor, cheap imports. 🙁

well all we can say is its easier to get the spares when they fail. And expect to be on first name terms with the engineers lol

Maybe I should just get a new mobile phone instead! lol
Out of interest, which would be the least expensive dishwasher that you actually could recommend?

Hi
For an entry level machine the Beko DFC04210 take some beating. Entry level machine, no known issues and spares are readily available at a good price.

Thanks for all the advice. It is much appreciated.
By chance, I just spotted a really cheap deal on this entry level Bosch SMS50C02GB.
How do you rate it?
