This guy didn’t mind having a quick repair…
But, it sounds like he saw the engineer earn his crust from close range.
It also sounds like no drum spider was used 😕
I can remember the last time the bearings were gone, but the spider was ok.

Bryan has a good point, there are some customers you are better off without so why resort to bull$hit methods in order to keep them? I have had at least 2 elderly customers who have brought vacuum cleaners to me for repair then made a huge fuss about me charging £10 to clear a blockage. They have not been back but good riddence I say 😈

Me too!
£23.50 minimum.
Some people won’t ever pay over a fiver for a vac repair. I just say
They get a 12 month guarantee for their £23.50, and BOY, do they use it! 😕

I very much agree, but there are others that are good customers, but so out of touch with what the manufacturers charge that they don’t realise the value for money the independants can offer. Some just need a few facts pointing out.

I give a 3 month guarantee but would be willing to make it 12 months if they pay me £23.50. If it’s a DC07 I charge £35 to clear a blockage 😉

When I was as green as grass and straight out of my six months’ “training”, I came across my first Hotpoint brush job. That was when you had to get the motor out from the back because the lid was not removable (18000 series).
I didn’t know why it wouldn’t go.(That’s why I put training in inverted commas). So I took the motor away and sorted it out at home.
I charged the lady in the end about one and a half times what I charge for the same job now! She was still as pleased as punch.September 9, 2005 at 2:18 pm #146758streetlighter

Hi all
I am a bit diferent than the rest of you as I only do a few small villages near to me. 😆
No mention of cost is given until I have looked at the machine, then I know exactly what the problem is (and the time scale) . By this time most customers are thinking you are going to charge them £100’s so are quite shocked when you say £55 and I can do it now if you want, they bite my hand off. they dont care if it now takes 10 min or 2 hr,s all they see is there pile of washing going down soon. 😉
Yes I still do “no call out” but the jobs I get paid on have now gone up to 85{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} due to stricter quizing on the phone.
When I do carbons I always pull out and do a service (clear filter) the customer then thinks she gets more for money and I get the £ coins.Paul
