Hi guys,
I’m considering getting an electric range with a double oven vs. a single electric oven?
I live alone and don’t do a lot of complicated cooking. I thought it might be a good idea to get the double oven because much of what I would do could be done in the smaller portion of the oven.
Any opinion on this would be appreciated.

Single ovens (pyrolytic excluded) plug into a normal 13 amp socket however a double oven must only be fitted on the 30amp cooker circuit so check where your siting it otherwise you have the exspence of an electrician to consider if you go for a double oven .

Again, some one is incorrect, you can get a pyro oven that plugs in, you can even get a 90cm wide dual fual range that works on 13amps.
Captain caveman, i think you need to end your advice with “as far as i know” as you are not fully correct in some of your advice.

Hi Martin
It must be a single cavity dual fuel range like the Indesit K9F11SKG or the Flavel FDF90 to run off a 13A socket.Don

Martin, i do a list as there is many models. I have said this so that the op can get more choice, and not be limited by missinformation

Can only speak as an end-user rather than an expert.
I went through the same decisions a couple of years ago when I refitted my kitchen. I finally decided on a single cavity built under oven. Main reason was I couldn’t find (at that time) a double oven with pyrolitic cleaning (which I particularly wanted – hate oven cleaning). Also, the one I bought seems to have extremely good insulation, including triple glazed door etc. and I’m guessing it is as cheap to run as many smaller cavity ovens. Heats up very quickly too. The downside is the grill is in the top of the oven of course, which could be limiting if you needed to use both at the same time. (I find a cast iron skillet better for most “grilling” anyway).Re: Double or single electric oven?

I’ve since checked the installation spec on several single pyrolytic ovens and the lowest consumption is 16amps. So, far from being adaptable to plug into a 13amp socket. But my question still stands to try to prove Captaincaveman wrong is his statement. 😉

Smeg SCP496n-8I could go on with other manufacturers, but i wont.

And too add the customer could have a 4 zone induction hob that also plugs in, even having the plug top fitted!
