Re: electra awm1100b eco has power/water but does nothing

ok removed a leg of one of the resistors from the board but could not get a reading across it.

my mutimeter display does not change when applied

just in case i checked if my meter was ok to check this ohm range and it said it could test Resistance at 20Mž ±0.8{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.

O.K your meter is more than capable of measuring these resistors, if you take the resistor out completely & take it to your nearest Maplin store you should be able to get a replacement no problem. Make sure you check the other 1 just in case but it’s usually only 1 goes o/c. It may be an idea to get 2 incase it happens again in the future. 8)

    thanks for the info :0)

i think i may as well change both resistors.

but i notice on the board that the second of the two resistors has shrouds on the legs going to the board. see pic.

    why are these shrouds used?

Hi the sleeves are for insulation to stop the legs of the resistor from shorting out to the components around it, theyr’e also heatproof because these resistors run quite warm.
The replacements won’t have this on them so you need to transfer it over,
they will also possibly be slightly larger but will fit comfortably.

hi sorry to be a pain but im having trouble locating the correct replacement resistors.

i cant find them on either the maplin or the RS websites!

am i searching for the wrong thing? lol

it says on the resistor: 6.2KΩ J 5W

but alas i cant find an equivalent!

I’m keen to find out if this works as it would be muchly appreciated if specialist can then explain the logic as to why he picked out the ceramic resistors.

You might get lucky with this selection:

I didn’t actually, but these resistors going & causing this fault is not a new thing it’s been reported in the past by other engineers.

From a personal point of view I allways check high value resistors i.e 100k & over, Wirewound resistors & Electrolytic capacitors before replacing any board, it’s surprising over the years how many times this has paid off & saved a replacement board, it’s something I was taught to do when studying Electronic servicing many moons ago.

Hi: Tried several places to source these for you but the closest commonly available value is 6K8 either 5 or 7 watt, you could try 1 in place of the blown resistor, it won’t cause any damage if it doesn’t work. Or try your local TV repair shop, they may have some old stock lying about.
    Personally I’d get a 6K8 7 watt & try it.

hi i think ive found the correct resistor at RS electronics.

    http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear … &R=1997882

can you just confirm this for me before i buy :0)

    thanks.

Hi Mate: O.K right value & wattage but you need Axial leaded not Radial leaded, i.e with the leads comin out of either end rather than both coming out of the bottom end.
The web address you need is: http://www.cpc.co.uk

    Part No: RE 03462

    Value: 6K8 7 watt

    Type: Axial Wirewound.

Price: £1.73 for a pack of 5 inclusive of VAT but carriage is extra.

    Hope that helps: Andy 8)
