Electric oven element on when switched off…. Belling Format 644 electric cooker

Had the same issue on an old Belling cooker a few years ago and it was a failed oven stat. I took the old one apart and the contacts had become loose inside so were touching together even though it was off. It was noticed due to a hot smell coming from the oven. I’m not sure how long the oven element would’ve lasted like that as of course it was running without the fan blowing air across it.

The more I read about my issue,!I’m confident it’s the oven stat, which affixes to the rear of the knob assembly, as I’m still able to rotate the knob and turn the circulation fan on and off and the operation of the knob/switch feels good, also in normal operation, the oven element wouldn’t glow orange within 60 seconds
I’ve not took the oven apart yet to look into it further and the hob, grill and top oven are all still working, not even missed the use of main oven.
