KeymasterWell we’ve all come across the problem by now I should think well here’s the cure according to Haier…
The customer opens the door before the cycle is complete causing an inward rush of cold air, this cause the pressure inside the cabinet to increase slightly and the pressure then forces the the water down the overfill pipes at the front corners. The cure (supposedly) is to raise those overfill pipes with a tie-wrap.
I’ll try to scan and upload the photos later if I can.
As an interesting side note which I’m sure a few manufacturers will be interested in knowing that are buying (or looking to buy) these machines, it has been reported that there is a 55{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} failure rate over all products sold in Portugal made by Haier. Yes, you read that right, 55{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}!
Just don’t ask how I came by the information, but it is accurate. 😉

Quality stuff this Haier, what do they cost to make ? About £30 if I recall I was told.
It’s no wonder the “rebadgers” are buying them like there’s no tomorrow with the dollar signs rolling in front of their eyes.
Short lived appliances and even shorter lived reputations methinks 😉

What can you find them badged as Dave?

KeymasterHygena, Diplomat, Pheonix and a few other stealth ones that have crept in of late as well as Haier itself of course.

And of course they are even crappier versions of a crap indesit in the first place who of course solved that little problem by removing the pipes altogether, shame no one told Haier.

KeymasterI didn’t know that Mark.
What I can’t get over is the failure rate, I mean that’s just unreal.
So I did some digging about to see what I could turn up, so I got a hold of someone from British Gas and it turns out that they ditched Haier due to the inordinate amount of recalls on them and the high failure rate. The failure rate has been unofficially confirmed to me on the strenghth of that.
Now, the scary thing is that I happen to know that there’s one or two brands/manufacturers looking to bring these things in due to the low cost. Just watch out for the things and ensure you’re not picking up the tab for so-called “recalls”. 😉

Can someone explain what’s going on here? The Ariston LI62 dishwasher that I posted a Question about the other day is of the same design and construction as the Haier machine, and I’ve noticed that Merloni are now turning them out as Hotpoints as well. I’ve also seen them as Baumatics. So who designed them in the first place, Haier or Merloni? Did one of them sell the rights to manufacture them to the other? Is it like East European cars where VW [Ithink] sold their old production lines to Skoda? Geoff Roland.

I dont know but it was a Merloni design in the first place, at the same time that Hairer were launching a few years back, at a trade show somewhere they were displaying washing machines that were previous model Ariston Margeretas. There is obviously some kind of design trade off going on, assuming they are not just ripping them off.

KeymasterYes, nothing like using a poor design with shoddy build quality, not exactly a recipe for success.

From the sound of it the sooner we start collating the faults with these appliances, the sooner we will be better armed.
As Ken says if we are repairing these( and the incoming carlton/kenwood appliances are hairer ) and expected to warrenty our work its in our own interest to work together.
Dishwasher: full size and slimline. STOPPING MID CYCLE
So the overheat stat is a manual reset..set at 78degrees. It does trip if the customer inturupts the heat cycle to add an item, or to remove an item on drying.
Located at the back, centrally, directly under the heater. I have already been told that fitting an auto reset will alter the technical spec on the appliance(unofficially of course). Waiting for a chance to put it officially.Dishwasher: LEAKING
The inlet hose seal is ropey at best, leaks even when tight.Built in fridge(undercounter) DOOR CLOSING
Hinges made of monkey metal and can fail within a month.Anyone got more?

CDA are also trialling them ,Look out for the later model it doesn’t have the stupid hose system but I am informed it does have a turret affair in the sump whereby if the customer places a saucepan over it it drags water in to the base, also the pump spigot are very very fragile you only have to breath on them and they brake ,I have had two exchanges where over zealous installers have managed to break the inlet valve!!
all in all not a good productLawrence

ParticipantIf these are based on Merloni products is there any interchangability berween the two? After all, the Merloni product MIGHT be using higher quality components!
Never thouht I’d find myself saying that!

Chris please put the booze back in the cabinet! 😉
I am reliably informed that there are three quality levels that the machines are built to, the best is reputedly pretty good but I’ve not seen one as yet.

Take extra care (no pun intended) when pushing these back into position as the steel used in the door is very thin indeed. The first one I did had 10 little dents corrosponding to my fingers after doing so.

Yeah, that turrett also forms the mounting for the rear of the circ pump on a coiled spring affair (the only other mounting being the hoses). I managed to break one of these when changing a circ pump and that was on one of the ” higher quality” Indesit versions.
