You Informed the person responsible for the property of the unsafe situation and they have then carried out remedial work to correct it using a qualified person.

I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong on this but It seems as if you have followed correct procedure.

In fact sleep easy, you have probably gone above and beyond what was actually required of you for which you should be applauded as many would not have taken the initiative and just turned a blind eye. If only more tradesmen were as conscientious………..

    Re: Gas Safety Question

    Biting tongue……

Did you bother to trace this pipe to a used Gas Supply ?

As your not qualified you are not leagally responsible for anything, having said that this is where the grey area starts for some, as you have knowledge this could be an issue puts some responsibility on you when you contacted the agents.

When a person is unqualified, you should act the same as everybody else, you did right in making people aware, but first I would have contacted the National Grid Enquiry line 0800 835 1111 not the Emergency line unless you smelled gas and follow there advice, the call is recorded and at least you can prove you did something. Landlords and agents are not always the most attentive and can lie.

Gas safe is all about passing on responsibility, problems such as this occurs because we do not have proper qualifications and regulation within our industry, people such as you mostly walk away, some react, but frankly its not good enough to have people scratching their heads or as in this discussion different answers to the solution and some wrong.

    Its a minefield.
