Great idea…Call it. Chicken chat.Thats what its called on a chicken website.
I had four Dutch bantams given to me by a customer about ten months ago. He said there all hens 3 weeks later one was cockadoodledooing at 6 in the morning .He was promptly evicted.
We also have a hen who thinks shes a sparrow. I let em out in the garden and she flew upto my neighbours upstairs window sill.Spent the next hour trying to entice her down with mealworms.
    The joys of chicken keeping.
But they do keep you entertained if works a bit quiet.

    Re: gone dead

i bought a cockeral for £1 plus 20 pence commision to the auctioneer at the weekend, hes a good cockeral too, hes “doing” all my hens.

Then a allotment neighbour came back from hes sisters farm on tuesday and brought us 36 chickens to share among 3 of us all for free, 14 were light sussex which i must add are extremely hardy birds and excellent layers.

Eggs are sold for £1.50 a dozen and i currently get 2 dozen a day.

However i never sell my eggs to pay for their feed as i tend to give them away to friends family and neighbours for free.

Once you have eaten a freshly laid egg you will never buy from a shop again tbh.

Now I dont want to ruffle your feathers but they’re rarer than hens teeth. You could scratch about trying to make a living out of washing machines but most of the time you will be running around like a headless chicken earning chicken feed.

What you really need to do to make some money is hatch a cunning plan. Not some bird brain idea.
Its got to be something you can crow about or you will end up with egg on your face.

You could rival ukwg website but you have to be cock sure its going to work.It only takes one bad egg on your side for it to fail.

If your hen pecked you had better run any ideas past the old crow first
because if you dont you will be walking around on eggshells for weeks. It just really depends on the pecking order of the household.

    I’ll get my coat

    Re: gone dead

My cousin keeps 1600 free range laying hens and is barely scratching a living (pun not intended).

When they slow down laying to 3 eggs a week they get sold off for processing as thats the cost of their feed and he gets about 30p per bird.

    Thats economics for you.

    Sound familiar? 👿
