May I suggest take one on first, then the rest in time? It’s like at school, you get bullied by a group and then when you’ve had enough, you swing for the biggest…. knowing if you knock him down, the rest will leave you alone….

I would say lets swing for Hotpoint, afterall, they are probably the biggest PITA when it comes to tech info, and on a plus side, Indies don’t get to worry about their Manufacturer contracts as Hotpoint dont do deals with Indies where as some Manufacturers do.

Indeed, but if we ask them all then we’re seen to be playing fair and not singling one out. 😉

As the WTA we would be entitled to ask the question of manufacturers ,what technical support can our members expect from you?
So why not approach it from that angle ,ask the question all innocently and see what response we get .
The Fault code guide is in the public domain so we could use that as a way in something like “To enhance the next edition of our fault code guide we would like to include technical contact details for your company, please would you be so kind as to furnish us with the information we require ?”
Then let them respond ,and go from there .

Indeed, a cloak of innocence is what I had in mind. 😉

I have to concur with Lawrence’s point that if you approach them as a body and ask a set question, you should expect a straight answer. No prizes for guessing what that might be of course!! 😀
But seeing as we are the new TA, starting out, planning our future; it would almost go without saying that we may ask for manufacturers’ assistance and cooperation. After all, our members are used (double entendre intended) for insurance work to back their machines and in effect, keeping them looking good. The 2 way street. 😉
The letter has to be identical to all parties to look as innocent and impartial as possible.

Going off at a slight tangent I did a bit of polite probing here. http://tinyurl.com/2htv4x

I was hoping that they would answer that a rewrite of the software cleared the fault in a fair number of cases. It does seem as though a rewrite may be successful but due to the pressures placed upon the engineers they are reluctant to go down that path.

If it could be proved that a simple rewrite of the eeprom was suitable in say 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of cases then that would be more ammunition for us, £90.00 for five minutes pressing a few keys on a company engineers laptop.

Reading into that, the franchise engineers won’t do it due to the low success rate and their own liability….. I suspect it’s the company engineers who are prepared to try it.
