It doesn’t seem more than a few weeks ago I logged on to my home PC one Sunday evening to check my emails only to find one with the subject….“While you lot were out sunbathing……….”
And now look, one year on, over 750 members, a forum more active than anyone would have imagined in the time span it’s been live, new news stories posted virtually every day, two succesful meetings and a whole load of new friends.I’m glad and very proud to be a part of it 😀

Yes I remember the inception of U.K. Whitegoods.
I actually joined up on my Birthday, don’t bother with a card, (when you get to my age waking up in the morning is an achievement, getting up is a challenge).
We have seen a few changes in the industry & I hope some improvements. There is a long way to go but it is nice to have some recognition.
I suggest we do an annual “Birthday Honours list”
May I propose a Knighthood for The Right Honourable Mr Kenneth Watt. O.B.E’s for the Honourable Messers Heath & Conway. Do I hear anyone second these? There are some unsung heroes out there I will leave for the rest of you to mention, they may not be due a medal, but certainly some recognition.
Well done all of us I think. I will have a toast to the good health & wellbeing of this splendid site.

Blindingly great idea Alex!
Here are the nominees…….
“Sir Kenneth (Who?) Watt, UKW & Bar(tab)”
“David (Is it my round again?) Conway, Hic”
“Kevin ( Knickers to you lot) Heath, RUFC”
😆 Happy Birthday you old codgers 😆And my grateful thanks for your efforts so far. 😉

LOL, I remember that email Dave!
I’m actually a bit humbled by all this TBH. I started the site, yeah and came up with the idea as well as promoted it a fair old bit and I still do that along with what I do here. It’s a hell of a lot of work at times, more so with what you don’t see behind the scenes and both Dave and Kevin along with a few others have played principal roles in all that and taking some of the burden at times, so there are some unsung heroes here. There has also been a great deal of information passed to us by many members of the trade that have kept the info flowing, some of it being passed has been incredibly sensitive and I hope that we have honoured everyone’s right to privacy on that front, but again, without that information it would not be such an interesting medium or as fast at keeping everyone informed. All these people and all the people that have contributed their posts and thoughts in the past year are what have made UK Whitegoods what it is, no one person can lay claim to it, or even a group of people other than the entire community that has sprung up from UKW as we all play a part in it.
We all contribute, we all try to help one another and we have, above all, always remained very pleasant and courteous to others at all times, even if we didn’t always agree on a topic. That I think is exemplary behaviour in anyone’s book and only serves to show that we are just a nice bunch of people out to make an honest living. I also think that we have shown to the public and many clients that we deal with, in whatever context, that we are indeed not fools and that we are an honourable bunch. Yes, we all like a laugh and there is a fair bit of humour on UKW at times, but it lightens the day and we all have a laugh at some of it so there’s no problem there.
But as I have said often, this site is yours really, the trade. Without you guys it would not have flourished the way that it has or taken on the role that it has in the industry. So whilst I am honoured at the importance you place on the admin team why don’t you share some of the credit amongst yourselves as together, working as a team as we have done, the knowledge we have is just astounding.
I can only echo what Dave has already said in the way that the site has gone and that I am honoured to be associated with the site the people here and the many friends I’ve made along the way. I look forward to the future of UKW with such a band of decent people onboard and just wonder were we’ll be in another year or two, but I’ll raise my glass to a bright future just as Alex has done.

ParticipantMidnight. Sat here in my UKW sweater, with a jumbo sized UKW mug (You haven’t got yours yet?) full of beer, thinking “There’s a bunch of good guys out there”. 10 and a half years on my own relying solely on my wits and marginal relationships with local engineers made life interesting to say the least.
What no-one has mentioned is that we have created a community amongst us; total strangers are sharing what, a year ago, I would have considered “confidential information” and would have guarded quite zealously.
Now, I hope I contribute as willingly as everyone else to this central pool of knowledge we are building. It is incredibley reassuring to know that you can give and receive freely, with no comebacks.
Total strangers is perhaps an unfair thing to say, as, although there is only one person I know for sure on this site, we are sufficiently relaxed in each others company that it doesn’t seem to matter.
All those business difficulties you think you suffer from? There’s a whole bunch of people who are suffering the same thing.
Brilliant, bloody brilliant.
Keep it up chaps,
I hope you had a great day,
Penguin.
