ModeratorI’m sorry but I have screwed my eyes up and tried to make it out, but I give up. On the homepage there is a nice picture of a washer door, one of a man with a screwdriver, what on earth is the partially out of focus picture on the spares link supposed to be.? 😕

Hi Jim
Think its gonna be a close up of a PCB module c/w resistors, ceramic capacitors, some 1n4147 diodes at a guess 😕 and chip just visible 😀Greg

Well if thats the case it needs changing ASAP. :rolls: to the general public and moi’ it looks a mess. IMHO of course. 😉

Why, I think its OK, sharp focus of the resistors with the nearer components out of focus, very artistic. Maybe your screen needs some updating Jim.

My screen is running at 1280×1024 on a 19” LCD flat screen. It may be artistic but so was Van Gogh & Picasso, to the ordinary punter it will mean nothing at all. It is just a blurred image of something or other. Better use of the camera could have rendered most/all of the image in focus.

Point taken Jim. But, you knew it was coming… 😆
I have tried and totally failed to come up with an image that represented spares well, this is the best I could do and yes, I went all arty with a macro semi in-focus shot I took of a Servis PCB. I took a turn that day.
I’m stumped as to what else to use. 😕
That said, I’m open to any ideas.

Ah, you’d think that wouldn’t you, very obvious really. But no, doesn’t work.
See, we all know what a pump or a door seal or an armature is, but consumers don’t. And, if you put pictures like that there then teh person looking for a cooker element immediately sees that you sell washing machine parts.
It’s really not as easy to do the soft consumer stuff, trade is easy.
Parts diagrams work, yes, but only when they are big enough and you still have to get over the fact that you can only display one. On top of which they are monotone only.
Fun innit? 😉

The vast majority of appliance failures these days are associated with electronic failure. How very approriate then that a close-up of electronic component parts, well recognised by the public at large these days, is illustrated in this way…. 🙂
All clever stuff from north of the border I reckon! 😉

I would like to dispute that point. With the (dis) honourable exception of the Indesit/Servis mob, the electronics on most machines are fairly robust.
At a guess I would say that if I complete 35 to 40 calls in a week, less than 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of them involve changing the PCB’s. Pumps, door seals, interlocks, brushes, bearings, belts, TOC’s, stats, regulators, elements etc, those are the biggest failure points by volume. Take out the biggest cause of failure altogether (the user) and electronic faults come way down the list.I don’t think a picture of a PCB is a bad thing, it just needs to be a little sharper. 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of blokes and almost 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the fairer sex looking at that picture would have no idea what it was.

I agree Jim, I suppose from an engineer perspective the picture slightly blurred, looks great but I can see how Joe Bloggs may have a problem recognising what they are looking at.
Greg 😀
