ParticipantHey everyone
My neighbour is moving out soon and has offered me the above washer for £40 (sure I could get him down on price) Not sure how old they are.
He bought it as a refurbished one from a local back street washing machine shop that reconditions machines and sells them on.
It looks in good condition has separate temperature dial.
My current washer has noisy drum bearings that are getting slowly louder, not so bad on wash cycle but come spin cycle and its very noisy indeed and sounds like its going to take off!
My current washer is a Hoover Six Express 1300 – WDM130 Washer Dryer.
In your opinion do you think I should get the above washer and what are they like? I cannot seem to find any reviews on the net. WIll it last me a while?
Serial Number is 37613190 – A111674600118

You are not likely to find many reviews for a machine that is at least 10 and possibly as much as 15 years old.
Decent machines in their day, far better than the Candy made Hoover machines.
The correct model number will be inside the door or on a stick label on the side, it should begin with an A.

Just updated the post with the correct model and serial number etc.
Does this tell you anything?
My current washer is a Hoover Six Express 1300 – WDM130 Washer Dryer. Had it about 7 years. Used the dryer probably once.
My neighbour has just let me do a wash in it.
I noticed that it fills with a lot more water, my current washer when I put a large load in the clothes dont move around properly because it uses so little water.
THe Eco wave plus uses more but the main wash cycle seems to only last about 20minutes on a non coloured fast cottons 40C.
Surely thats not enough to get clothes clean.

That model number comes up in a 1997 service manual I have and its possibly a year or two older than that. 😉

ParticipantThey good machines then? Whats with it using more water and the wash cycle lasting only 20minutes?

Older machines do use more water. Unless you switch the heater off you are unlikely to get a 20 minute wash. Any wash cycle under 45 minutes to an hour is unlikely to wash anything properly.
If you open the door and spin the drum round and it is fairly smooth and quite then its worth taking a punt on for £40 even if you only get six months out of it.

ParticipantI think it took about 30minutes for the main wash cycle on a 40C non colourfast.
What do you mean switch the heater off? How do I know if its smooth, it didnt have any resistance if thats what u mean.

Come on, for £40 how picky can you afford be. 😯 😆
In its day it was a decent mid range machine, if it is in good condition there is a chance it will outlast any sub £250 garbage being sold in the shops today.
Due to its age there are or will be some parts that will be obsolete but all the usual wear and tear components such as brushes, belts, door seals, valves, pumps etc are all still available.
It means you are getting a machine for less than half of most manufacturers labour charge. 😉

Participantyes this is true but my current machine is still working bar the noisy drum bearings which are getting worse
I have put the model number of current machine above what would you do.

It would cost you a serious amount of money to repair the one you have, whether you buy the other machine or not, not worth it TBH.

ParticipantI was thinking of getting a new one anyway when mine goes but my Dad says it could go on another 2 yrs with the drum being noisy its whether you can put up with the noise.
So I think I will get the £40 one and see if anyone wants to buy mine for spares.

hes an engineer, there washer had noisy drum bearings and it went on for 2 yrs before they said enough is enough and bought another!!!
Can you check your manual and see if it has a user accesible filter as couldnt see one.
Im thinking I should get this cleaned out before I install it in my kitchen.

I’ll bet his machine wasn’t a Candy with a Hoover badge on like yours.
The Eco Wave machine was made in the UK, no user accessible filter on these, just a small sump hose to catch foreign bodies, accessible from underneath.
