ParticipantHi All
Error code E2 on the above appliance.
Replaced Thermistor and 2 other sensing devices – error code still displayed.
What is next?

Hi, could you let me know the part numbers of the sensors and thermistors already replaced, I will check if there are any others that may be in there somewhere.
Regards.
Dave.

Dave
Thanks for such a quick response.Parts replaced as follows:
179156
168233

There are two 179156 thermistors, one at the rear and the other is on the heater support plate, it may well be the one you haven’t already replaced. 🙄 Sods law as they say.
Worth a try I guess, if not the main PCB control unit may be faulty.

Hi Dave
when you say heater suppot plate – where exactly is that?
There was one in the exhaust outlet and one on the very bottom of the machine enclosed in a plastic enclosure that held the device against the bottom plate of the chassis – just in front of the motoer and fan (when viewed from the rear.
I have now got the front plate off and would tend to agree that if it is not this other thermistor (if I can find it) then it is likely to be the PCB. Don’t know if they will supply that part though.

KeymasterJohn,
At that stage it may be better to bite the bullet and get an engineer that is familiar with the product, especially as swapping out parts without knowing that they are faulty can be an very expensive business. Tell us the postal region you’re in and I’m sure that one of the guys will be reasonably close to you and can assist if you choose to go that way.
Just a suggestion.

Hi K
dave has not given me any further clues as to where the fourth item is and sniffing the PCB certainly indicates severe overheating if not the complete burn out of componenets (have not yet succeeded in removing the PCB so that I can see the component side).Post code RG26 Reading area.

John

That’s because I am unable to offer too much technical guidance, risk of personal liabilty if you injure yourself and that sort of thing.

New PCB required then I guess 😥
New tumble drier would be more ecomocal IMO, given the age and the part is £106.39 inc VAT (power module).Dave.

Hi Dave
Sort of gathered that potential litigation might be behind the reluctance to supply too much detail. I fully understand and appologise if I appeared ungrateful – cos that certanly is not the case.
Conrol PCB from Hotpoint is 164.63 (plus VAT presumably) so new dryer seems to be on the cards unless I can find a source of second hand parts.
Thanks for your help
John

Not at all, you did not appear ungrateful 😀
That’s the control pcb price you have there, the price I gave was the power pcb, there are two and either could be at fault.
Time to buy a new tumble drier. 😉

Sorry John, it’s the current climate of political correctness that we live in I’m afraid and the general rule is that if the customer has to have too much detail explained then we have to assume that they are incapable of carry out a repair competently. We all generally agree that this is pretty much rubbish most of the time but that’s the word on it from the majority of government agencies and legal sources. 🙁
It is a debate that raged here a while back.
We can give generalised broad guidance though without any real trouble or pointers on what to look for as well as giving an opinion on whether or not it’s worth the hassle. 😉

Thanks dave & K
Its the control PCB that smells burnt out so I will get it off and hopefully the offending parts will be obviuos. Then its a trip to RS and a bit of soldering and maybe????
Worth a try

John
PS If you haven’t already gathered – I’m from Yorkshire!!!!

Dave / K
Thanks for the pointer re the third thermistor – found it and have replaced it with the one that I removed from the base of the chassis.
All is put back together and is running without error.
Are you able to confirm that ythe two items are in fact the same part number and thus the same value?
Regards
John
