Hello, thanks for letting me join the forum. This is my first post.

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 WM63. Its been a great washing machine for my wife and I for the last 20 years. Last year I did some work on it, new spider frame and bearing, dampers and heater element. I did this work because its a good machine and we would like to keep it going for a good few years yet.

When it gets to the rinse cycle just lately it takes an age to get through it, my wife clicks it on to speed things up. Could anyone on the forum tell me what the problem might be? I do hope someone can help, thank you.

you need to see what its trying to do when it sticks

if its filling then it may be a faulty valve

It could also be syphoning if it sticks during rinse. Is the grey plastic outlet hose connected to a stand pipe?

Is it making any noises when it appears to be stuck?

Hello thank you for responding. It stays silent for an age when it gets to the rinse section on the dial, I think its around 3/4 an hour or more. I have not had chance to check it again since our last wash. I think on the last wash my wife moved it on as it was taking so long. I am going to do another check myself to get a more accurate picture.

If it was totally silent that could be a faulty fill valve but it uses the same cold fill valve for the washes as well. Worn motor brushes can also cause the control timer to stick so worth having a quick look at those as well

Hello Dave, I have the machine on the short silks cycle now. This is what is happening. It goes through the wash cycle fine, drains and then starts the rinse cycle. It puts water in for the rinse then stops. It stops for around 10 mins then puts more water in and stops. The drum doesnt turn at the rinse stage. I am 40 mins into the cycle now and its just started putting more water in. It seems the motor is not turning the drum in the rinse cycle.

Hello Dave, I have just moved it on manually to the spin cycle and it spins great. Its the rinse cycle that the motor doesnt seem to kick in. I assume in the rinse cycle the drum turns normally. I am hoping you can give me some suggestions from the info I have given up to now what could be wrong. You mention a faulty valve, do you mean the water inlet valve?

when you try it use cottonm cycles as silk and delicate fabics wont agitate as much so may give a false impression

still could be a faulty valve . its not unheard of for the coils to stop working as they get hot then start as they cool.

when it stop filling try adding water in the soap draw to about a third of the way up the door and see if it starts while your doing it

Hello Dave, I have just followed through on what you suggested. This is how it went. I turned the dial to th D position for cotton. It went through the wash cycle perfectly. After it spun and entered the rinse cycle it started to fill with water but stopped after a few seconds. I waited for around 15 mins, it didnt fill again so I started to fill myself though the draw, after about 4 kettle fulls the motor kicked in. It went through about 6 or 7 drum turns the started to empty. When it started to fill for the next rinse it stopped again after a few seconds. I went through the same precedure and the motor kicked in again. I just moved the dial on then to finish the cycle.
Could you let me know your conclusions when you have a moment. Thank you. Fred.
