Penguin45 and fellow members.
Thanks for all your input – I was only asking if this cover could easily be removed or was designed not to be removed. I didn’t intend to start a heated debate between members on the cons of a particular make/model.
Penquin45 please note I have not responded to your posts in any negative way – and I appreciate your input and obvious knowledge.
I will remove the pump from underneath tomorrow because I don’t want to risk snapping the cover. I had never thought that the design could actually allow an obstruction to jam the cover – but it is obvious when you point it out. Other covers I have encountered have basically just been a flat disk – but looking at the shape of this it is obviously more involved than that.
Thanks again – will post the outcome later tomorrow.

Hi, DG+T,
Don’t worry, we love a bit of chat – public perceptions and trade ones are quite often divergent. 😀Good luck with it, let us know how you get on.

i have relly enjoyed these posts.
i will add my 2p worth.
take the plug out first.on a more serious note i had the exact same problem with a bwd129 i could not get the filter out i have broken them in the past i like a big pair of vice grips.
i pulled the machine out tipped it back at a 45 degree angle until the lid rested on the worktop i stood back and stared as all these woodshavings fell out, what is that the customer asked i jokingly said “it looked like a hamsters nest” then with a thud a fat brown hamster fell out the bottom of the machine it had been missing for 2 days and was taking its bedding out of the cage into the bottom of the machine.
watch out for that it might happen to you, i got the fright of my life.
unfortunately the machine was stinking.good luck and let us know what was in it.

Ok – there was something stuck in the pump!
Thats the last time I buy her indoors a silver necklace with expensive real glass pendant on it! Really small pendant of course – and real glass! Poundland I think 😆
Tilted machine backwards against worktop. Two pipes disconnected from pump and electrical connection – removed pump – jiggled necklace out. Can now remove cover – bloody silly design with louvres all moulded as part of the cover so that things can get caught and stop the cover unscrewing. Put back together and tested pump still works. Result 😀
Thanks for your help guys – much appreciated!

The amazing thing is, the only damage was to the three plastic drum lifters inside the inner drum.
Last week I had one with a single pound coin in it, that had smashed right through the outer drum doing £150 worth of damage. 😯

Penguin45 wrote:The filter will only easily remove if the foreign object objects are fully in the filter. If you have an object like a bra wire, it will stay partly in the side entry tube and partly in the filter chamber, it will prevent filter from unscrewing.
Use drain hose into washing up bowl to drain the machine by gravity, then tip it back to access pump and hoses. Power off, of course.
Penguin45.
Can attest to this myself with our s/h AEG Lavamat. Went to check the drain filter before running for the first time and it simply would not withdraw. On hands and knees and with a bright torch I could see what looked like springy wire was stopping it from coming out. With a rather more forceful tug, out it came, together with the underwire from a bra cup!
