ParticipantGot a Hotpoint Futura FDFL11010 that’s got an annoying bottom leakage. Thought initially it was the sump seal so changed that (well changed the whole sump as comes complete) still no better. I then changed the drain pump as I thought the O ring could be leaking but still no better. I’ve now suspended it on wood to watch it go through a cycle and can see the leak was coming from the black mastic like area where it’s been left with + like cut in the material. I sealed these up and the leak just moved a little. What could cause water to leak onto the mastic cover?
This is (to my knowledge) just a protective cover over the steel frame to prevent scratching/damage of the steel from below. How would water get between this mastic like cover and the steel, I’m not sure how it’s even possible….bloomin’ frustrating!
Thanks in advance!

ModeratorThe dishwasher may well be overfilling by the sounds of it,have you checked that the spray arms are not split or blocked aswell

Doesn’t appear to be but your theory makes sense. Would anything else cause overfilling? Water valve appears to shut off.

ModeratorThere is a litres counter i think its the left hand side the valve doesn’t know how much water to fill with so this is done by either the litres counter or the pressure switch on dishwashers if for example it fills with 2 litres of water and thats the correct fill level the water stops at that point if the litres counter is faulty it could fill with 3 litres then switch off the water hence over filling hope this helps you

ParticipantAny way of testing this valve?

Moderatorthe valve is not what Kai is suggesting is faulty rather than the way of measuring the amount of water entering the appliance

Sorry, I misunderstood. Is there a way of testing this in anyway?

Moderatoram a little worried about your description of where the leak is coming from
and chance of a pic to show us where
you may have to host it on another site and post a public link

Moderatorwhere this is leaking from is odd the black mastic is only for sound deadening but your saying it was leaking through a crack in this
there is only 2 reasons for that
1 the water is getting behind it and running underneath from higher up
or
2 there is a crack in your stainless steel tubDave

ParticipantI’m glad I’m not going mad, it’s a strange one isn’t it. I can’t see any obvious cracks/issues with the tub. There’s nowhere obvious where it looks like it could be leaking from The overfilling makes the most sense.

ModeratorThe pictures you have posted and the area where you are saying its leaking i have to agree with dave I think there’s a crack in the stainless steel tub as if it was overfilling it would more likely leak from the flange where the door opens and closes

Where is it most likely to crack would you think? I’ll have a thorough look again.

Moderatorwell there is no reason why you cant take off the sound deadening material and take it off a bit at a time till you find the leak. then it can be plugged from underneath

Might well have a go at that later!

ParticipantHave removed all the mastic/sound deadening material. Ran the dishwasher and the leak is now coming from the sump. I’ve just replaced it (had to to buy a new seal). Is there a specific torque for the sump bolts I may have missed, or a procedure I have overlooked when replacing it?
