Help, my Hotpoint Futura hf8b593 washing machine trips the RCD once it starts to fill up. Checked the plugs fine, opened and cleaned the drain in the front and took few coins out of the drain hose from the back but still trips the the RCD the same way

I have split your post from the thread you posted it in. Guessing you are not a regular user of online forums but posting a question about a recent Hotpoint machine in a 2 year old thread about a totally different fault on an Indesit washer is not the way to go. 🙂

To trace the fault on your machine you will need a good quality multimeter or better still a megger, and know how to use them.

With the mains plug removed all components and wiring will need to be checked for insulation faults. The heater and main motor would be the first things to check.

My apologies iadom, it’s my first time here and I thought I had posted at the right place

Not a problem, let us know what you find if you can test the components.

Upto start of the wash okay but trips as it starts to fill up for a few seconds. Just opened the top and checked the main electrical block with multimeter. N & E showing short. Just need to figure out where, has inlet valve any electrics?

That ‘electrical block’ is in fact an earth leakage mains filter so an initial reading to earth with a basic multimeter is normal.

All of the internal components have what you call ‘electrics’. Fill valves very rarely ever cause such problems though.

I would be checking the heater then the motor as first advised, Indesit heaters are a common cause of this type of failure 😉

Haha that was my new terminology. Heating element, earth to live/neutral showing short. Am I right in thinking maybe its time for a new element 🙂

Sounds like it, a common fault, part number is C00279904

Changed element so now it doesn’t trip the RCD but the drum doesn’t agitate/rotate at all. It just fills up and after a while pumps the water out and all lights flash at the end. Checked the 3 phase connectors to the motor all giving a reading of 3.8 in between them and couldn’t see any voltage inbetween the incoming cables. Do you think it’s time to order a new machine?

    Re: Hotpoint Futura hf8b593

Are you certain that ALL of the lights are flashing?

Error codes on these are given by flashing all of the horizontal lights and keeping a combination of the right hand vertical lights steady without flashing. The bottom five lights are used including the door locked light and are numbered 1 to 5 from BOTTOM to TOP.

Try it again and see if any of the right hand vertical lights are on steady.

End and rinse as well from vertical and makes noise as if it’s agitating
