Certainly not. I know that the influence of italians seems to take over but that was the same when candy took over hoover. As one of indesits engineers i dont see too many repeat faults with same appliances and very rarely. I went to an aqualitis today in fact. Customer bought it from currys 2 weeks ago and has had it exchanged twice now for the same fault. Wash takes too long. Want to hazard a guess at what was the problem?

Yes, poorly trained sales staff who know naff all about the appliances they are selling, its criminal 👿
Ignorance is no excuse as the information is available if they cared to read it ie wash times and energy ratings.

I always tell the customer that if they wish to pay an extortionate labour charge they can take advantage of the five year parts cover. On the rare occasion that the cost of the parts & my labour are more than the Indecent Company Ltd’s rip off prices, I inform them of the savings they can make. Very few are prepared to wait 10 to 14 days for an engineer of unknown capabilities ( you have as many duffers as good engineers within the company and it was always so) when the alternative is a call within one or two days, a first class job from someone who they and their family have trusted for almost 30 years.

On the odd occasion, that I fear will become more frequent due to the rapidly declining quality, poor electronics and sealed drums of the current production of Hotperloniston machines that a repair was over £120, then I would insist that they contact the manufacturer. If they still insist on asking me to do the job, then I will.

As I said in another thread, its a no brainer.

im sure there are engineers who are self employed who are just as incompetent at repairs as there are good ones. most of calls i go to are booked within a couple of days of me going to appliance.

I agree there are some very poor sales staff out there in the usual stores found on high street and out of town sites. the machine i went to today was simply syphoning but had had it replaced twice

I suppose this had to happen eventually……

There was a time not all that long ago when Hotpoint and Hoover were respected by the trade universally. They made machines which at best were adequate, but simple; easily serviced and parts were affordable. In the case of Hotpoint, since the launch of the WMA series and it’s progressively poorer updates, that respect has been thrown out of the window. Appalling build standards, poor design, cheap, nasty electronics and now the “throw away tub” just denigrates a name we used to admire.

I respect Indespoint’s position – company man, no doubt years of loyal service to a company which used to treat its employees well. Look around mate – we are not quite the bunch of cynics we appear – just realistic. We WANT to have decent stuff to work on – do you think Hotpoint could do that for us?

The Aqualtis’ opposition is primarily from Bosch, if I’m following the story correctly. No doubt a decent product, AKO electronics, affordable spares, tech support on the end of a telephone. Doesn’t take much to keep us Indes happy.

The Aqualtis has Indesits own electronics, a sealed tank, a ribbon cable flexing through the door hinge and hopefully a waterproof user panel in the door. Please forgive my doubts…….

Anyone care to bet whether or not we’ll even be able to buy a Hotpoint 10 years from now? At the current rate, 50 years goodwill will have evaporated by then. I doubt it.

    Chris.
