    Hi

I have a Hotpoint Mistral fridge freezer.

Recently its been making a noise when the fan is running and today the noise got louder with a grinding to a halt kind of a noise.

As a result of the above both Fridge and freezer are not cooling.

In the past when the fridge has not been cooling i have replaced the thermistor.
however as both are not working I was looking for some help so if someone can help it would be brill.

    Thanks in advance

Is there a build up of ice around the evaporator and fan in the freezer? If there is Could be either defrost element or one of the sensors/thermal fuse.

Not sure on that one as i turned the thing off last night.
It has been on for about 5-6 hours with still no cooling.

I will check to see if there is any ice now around the fan or evaporater and get back to you.

Thanks for your help so far

the plastic fan has come off and is broke at the position it gets fixed so the plastic bit is broke.

can the plastic fan alone without the motor be replaced?

Re: Hotpoint Mistral Fridge AND Freezer not cooling

The fan can be replaced, or it can be repaired. I’ve repaired fans successfully in the past when it is clear the alignment of the fan on the motor shaft can be set correctly.

I use fast-setting resin such as Araldite Rapid (~5 minutes) and Vaseline to lubricate/insulate the motor shaft from the resin so it is possible, later, to slide the fan off the motor shaft.

Apply Vaseline to the motor shaft, put the fan onto the shaft and fill the broken area with resin. Extend it over the surrounding plastic for strength.
As the resin is curing keep turning the fan steadily to prevent gravity causing it to gather in one place. This prevents the fan being off-balance once the repair is complete.

Once the resin has set ensure the fan will slide off the motor shaft and wipe away excess grease.
If necessary, use needle files to clean up and balance the repair.

Re: Hotpoint Mistral Fridge AND Freezer not cooling

any ideas where I can get the fan blade from?

I called hotpoint who offered to sell me the fan motor and blade as they do not sell it on its own for £80 plus and its £65 plus on this site.

Any ideas where I can get the blade from?

A pre-owned Fridge-Freezer containing the same parts. They can be got on Auction and classified advert sites. I recently got an FF92 for spares for £10.

Hotpoint Mistral Frost Free – No Power

    Hi,

I have no power going to the fridge freezer.

    The Evaporator fan stopped working.
Ordered a new one and when i connected it there was a bang.

Its different to the old one as the new one has a blue and black wire. the old one has both black wires.

When i connected it there was a loud bang near and now the fridge has lost power.

I have replaced the fuse in the plug but there is still no power.

I need help in finding where the problem is.

    Thanks in advance

Re: Hotpoint Mistral Fridge AND Freezer not cooling

any one know how to open the brown/black box where the wires are going into?

the grey lead has power going to it but the fridge/freezer has lost all power after i connected the new evaporator fan may be the wrong way round.

With respect, it looks like you’ve had a go yourself and stuffed it up.
I think it’s time to call out an engineer to fully inspect the damage.

Re: Hotpoint Mistral Fridge AND Freezer not cooling

From the pic above, that’s the condenser fan, not the evaporator fan. If you’ve fitted an evaporator fan and the evaporator fan runs on 12v (I’m not sure on this model) then that could be where your problem is.
Worse case is that you’ve blown the board.

Re: Hotpoint Mistral Fridge AND Freezer not cooling

    Sorry that was my mistake.

I was suppose to say condensor fan.

In terms of testing with a multimeter any ideas how i go about testing the componets to find what is faulty?

Please keep it to one thread or it gets confused and messy, it does not get you any more or any better a response.
