OK, well first I must admit I don’t venture anywhere near Chinese dishwashers but one thought crossed my mind…..it might be the wiring harness inside the door shorting out? Smoke would enter the tub from below the door I would imagine. 💡

I did check the wiring inside the door previously and it looked absolutely fine, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
It’s now completed 4 full cycles with no problems, so I’m still as baffled, but as they say.. ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!’, so I’ll carry on using it until such time as it starts smoking again.
However, I definitely won’t be leaving the house during a cycle, just in case!Thanks to Iadom and Martin for your suggestions. I’ll let you know if I ever get to the bottom of whatever caused the smoking. Maybe it was the mains filter after all, even though it looked fine on inspection, so I may just replace it as a matter of course.
