We were given a dryer as stated above. We were told that the heater matrix needs to be replaced – this was according to the engineer who looked at the machine before I actually received the machine.
So how easy is it to get one, fit it ourselves (hubby does have electronic/electrical engineering experience) and what is the approximate cost for the part ?
I have done a search on another site for the part and they didn’t have it. I came here to ask about instructions on how to fit the part.
Then I noticed the shop here now 🙂 Site as really expanded since the last time I was here. Well done everyone !
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Two different elements fitted to this model. We would need full serial number, or at least the first two numbers of same to ID correct part.
If your hubby does have the required experience, why not get him to test the element and thermostats first, with the power off of course. 😉

Sarah,
Part number of element is a 1701584., the thermostat kit ( fails at a ratio of about 100 to 1 to elements) is a 1701583.
spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to source these. Or follow these links, for heater.. http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/product_ … cts_id=358 for thermostats kit..

Jim.PS. If you do need the element then you have got lucky, the one you need is around £25/£30 + vat. The earlier one is over £50 + vat.

hi
thank you for the responses so far.
Can I just ask what is the heater matrix that the engineer spoke of – is that the heating element ?
If it is turning but just isn’t heating up apparently (haven’t tried it yet) does that mean it can only be heating element or the thermostat ?
Hubby will check those 2 after tomorrow.
Thank you
Sarah

“Matrix” is probably being used to refer to the general heater area under the back cover. Nicely non-specific……….
Iadoms posts pretty much cover everything you need to know – be advised that the actual heater is very fragile.
Power off, please.

ok Hubby is back from work and pulling the machine out of the garage.
Can you all help us save time and briefly or send a link to a picture, what the thermostats look like and where they are located ? AND Where is the heating element he needs to test.
He deals with building electronic equipment for airplane engines 🙂 not appliances. Would probably figure it out.. just trying to save some time as we haven’t even seen the inside of themachine yet.
thanks

Thermostats…
Cut out thermostat is open circuit and we think that means it is blown – is that right ?
The other therm is 0amps which means it is ok, but I know that they need to be bought in a pair. so just stating what hubby found.
Heating element – it is showing resistance values on all 4 coils.. each being about 20 ohms.
So our deduction is we need a set of stats and the element is OK //
Please let me know if that is right ?
thank yo u

This is worth a read as well:

I just had a thought. Since this was given to us and I can only go by what the person said was wrong ie.. drum was turning but no heat was the only problem, I just wanted to ask one last thing.
I am not asking you to dish another engineer I just need to MAKE sure that we haven’t missed anything. After all the engineer that tested the machine at the other person’s house said it was the ‘heating matrix’ that needing replacing at £30.
I do trust people here as you have helped us before, it just is an unknown machine to us and I am trying to figure out why the engineer would have said it was the matrix when it obviously tests as the stats being blown.
comments would be appreciated – mainly have we possibly missed something , or did something incorrectly ?
Thanks, promise last question !

Difficult one to answer……. terminology can vary between engineers, depending on their training/previous companies.
The latest Hotpoint dryers you are supposed to change the heater and thermostats as an assembly, which might reasonably be called a matrix. Not applicable to your machine however.
And there’s always one or two who get the rest of us a bad name by deliberately pushing up the job for increased profit.

ok, thank you for answering politely.. 🙂
My main concern is buying a part and then the machine still doesn’t work as I am DESPERATE for the dryer to be working… lot of soaking wet night pants for toddlers that need to be washed and dried !
Thank you very much
