Participantmy hotpoint wd440 is stuck with flashing time saver and on off lights.
I have had issues with this machine in the past with more lights that I understood were drainage blockages and I removed them.
This time I couldn’t find anything in the pump but the filter had loads of coins + a key etc.
I removed these and also checked the pressure switch by blowing the tube which I can hear clicking when I blow and clicking again when I release.
If I switch the machine off at the wall and leave, then switch back on – it immediatelty goes to the same error and engages the pump. This happens even if the power light is off.
The pump appears to be working ok (little noisy) and the machine is draining if I put water into the drum manually.

1-4, l-r (or top to bottom), which lamp is flashing? Ignore the on/off lamp.

there are five vertical lights on the left of the machine. The flashing one is the 4th of these from the top.
I left the machine off all night and switched it on this morning. I selected a wash program and it added a small amount of water, did a wierd extremely high rpm spin for a few seconds and then back to the flashing light and pump on.

Light 4 is a motor triac fault. Quite possibly a main PCB failure but I have seen broken wires to the motor plug cause this fault as well.
A quick peek inside behind the small lower back panel is where you will find the motor plug.
Stay safe and remove the mains plug first.

ok, I will look at that when I get home. Maybe pull the plugs to the pcb and re-attach.
If the pcd is faulty, does that mean a hotpoint engineer visit? I presume I can’t just buy a pcb pre-programmed?

If it is the wiring it is far more likely to be the plug attached to the motor than the PCB.
Don’t bother with a PCB yourself, you will need a PCB, around £85 to £90, a smart card to programme the PCB, oh and you will also need a smart card reader approx £65. Send for the Indesit Company and take advantage of your five year parts warranty.

ok. Out of interest, how does the wiring/connection cause such a fault since there appears to be some power to the motor as it spun this morning?
Is the pcb>motor connection purely a data interface? would it be because of some sort of bad connection or is there a resistance check or similar?
Just curious!

Two of the wires from the motor come from the tachometer, a small device that generates a small current as the motor revolves, this is fed into the control module and is compared with the current that it should be receiving for a wash, distribute or spin speed. The module then regulates the power being fed back into the motor to keep the speed constant. If the wire from the tacho is broken then the motor will shoot into fast speed before the module kicks in to switch the motor off and enter error mode. That is a little simplistic but I’m sure you will get the gist of it.

with a multimeter, should it show a closed circuit if I check the plug going into the pcb. Or are the wires visible enough that I would spot a broken one.
I’m trying to get as much info as possible before i get home as I have no idea when I will get to look at it.Thanks for the help by the way, very much appreciated.

A broken wire in the motor plug is usually easy to spot, a gentle tug on them all if it is not obvious.

i tested all the wires between the pcb and motor + the two black ones to the pump using a multimeter and there were no breaks.
the only thing that looked a bid dodgy was the pin circled in the picture. It is pretty wobbly. could this be the problem?

No, thats quite normal. looks like you need to bite the bullet and phone the Indecent Company. 😥
