ParticipantMY WD62 HOTPOINT MACHINE HAS GRADUALLY STARTED TO STEAM CLOTHES RATHER THAN DRY THEM.
IT GETS VERY HOT STILL, AND THE FAN IS WORKING, ALL SEEMS OK, BUT WHILE I USED TO GET A LOAD DRIED IN ABOUT 1 HR(WELL HER INDOORS DID ANYWAY), SHE NOW PUTS THEM ON FOR 2 WHOLE CYCLES SHE JUST HAPPENED TO MENTION, SO WITHOUT A DO I GOT ON HERE THINKING OF MY WALLET!
ANY SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED
I SUSPECT SOME SORT OF A BLOCKAGE???????? AS I HAVE NEVER REMOVED ANY FLUFF AS IN MY OLDER DRYER OF YEARS BACK.
CHEERS IN ADVANCE

You need to clean out the condensor at the back of the machine which will be filled with fluff.
Be very careful with the part as they’re obsolete so breaking it will be an expensive mistake. Also, use Debor or a similar adhesive or replace the O-rings when refitting the condensor, as they are a pain for leaking otherwise.

Great big plastic thing running from top to bottom of machine. Dead easy to spot it once you’re inside the machine, not least because it will be full of black fluff :).

At the back of the machine, dead centre along the top ridge is a small black plastic cap.
Remove that by levering it off, set the machine to a drying cycle and see if you get a small flow of water from the nozzle under the cap.
If there is no water spouting out of the nozzle then the condensor valve has failed and will give the exact symptoms you have.
Your machine has a system that uses the cold rinse water to continually flush the condensor so blockages on this model are not that common.
If the valve has failed then you need one of THESE

ok, thanks for that, it may save the risk of breaking the obsolete condenser, and sound an easier fix too
i will post a reply to let you know the outcome

If you do get a flow of water, leave the machine running for five to ten minutes to make certain it is OK, sometimes the valve will fail as it gets hot and then cut off the water flow.

Hi again,
i think i have a symptom you will have an answer for hopefully, i removed the black plug, and water runs out, but doesnt stop coming, its freezing cold, and when i turn the cold water feed off to the machine, it stops? surely this cant be right is it?
hope this helps and i will wait a reply
cheers

sorry just read your suggestion again about the cold water flush so ignore that bit please lol!
i have left it running as one person said, and the water flush keeps going.
as for blocked condensor, i can see a dark build up at the very top round section of the condensor, only above where the flush enters it, and when i shine a torch up against it, there is defo some fluff in there, but i now think i might have a heating element problem as it was running for 25 mins on the hot setting, and the glass was only warm on the door, so i unplugged it and touched the 4 elements that stick out of the top right, and only the second from the front felt hot, but not too hot to leave my finger on, the others are only warm, but what makes no sense is my wife insists that the clothes did come out hot!
the top of the condensor where it exits the drum, only got warm in that time, so am i going in the right direction here please?
any help much appreciated, along with a suggestion of part/s needed etc
cheers again in advance

That small trickle of water at the back is not flushing the machine, it should run all the time the dryer is on, its to cool down the inside of the condensor thus allowing the steam to condense on the inside pf the condensor and then drain away.
If you can see a build of of black gunge then the condensor should be cleaned out.
You cannot test elements by touching them, only an electrical test with megger or multimeter will suffice, the element on this machine is usally failry reliable and not prone to failure.
BTW, have you checked the main sump hose under the drum for obstructions as well?

Right then- sorted at last!
the element was fine, there was a wire broken where it goes from one element to the other, which eas lined up with the terminal, but had cables across the top of it hiding the fact it was broken, so the heat is sorted, and the condenser was blocked, as i removed it, to find it was full at the top coming out of the heater, and around the impeller also, the fins were caked full so it is back together now and working like new! well chuffed saved a bomb and the planet again
cheers everyone again -
