No change at all that I am aware of. Its due to changes in detergents, particularly the use of liquids that don’t contain bleach, and the overuse of the ‘economy’ features that all modern machines have, It will get worse with this barmy ‘turn to 30°’ campaign. If Proctor & Gamble had the common sense to put a warning on their packaging advising customers of the need to do a maintenance wash that would help but do they, oh no.
Drum supports have been failing in large numbers in this very soft water area for at least 15 years or more.

jims right, get a local engineer in to check it out. find one in your area from this site. a proffesional engineer will probably charge you an estimate fee and then its up to you. today i called on a noisy wm64 …bearings collapsed when i got the drum out, the shaft on the spyder was ruined and the outer shell of the inner bearing was immovable. one for the skip!!!BER. 🙁

Thanks for all your help guys.
We’ve also noticed now that the door has a crack in it – so given all the other things that are slowly & surely going wrong with this machine, we are going to get a new one.
Talked to the Mrs about ISE 10 (even though budget is about £500) – but she dosn’t like the drop down door …can anyone explain why its there – it feels like it will just get in the way when you are trying to empty the machine.
ISE 5 is also an option – but I can’t find anything that details all the wash cycles. Mrs is insistant that she knows what it can do before we buy one..fair enough really.
Was also considering Bosch – can you suggest a good machine from there – able to cope with loads from 3 kids & 2 adults.
Finally noticed LG do an (expensive ) Steam washer…what do u thik of that machine…?
Cheers guys

Do you have a dishwasher? Everyone who has, manages to load and unload them via a drop down door. The door is very robust and in fact is very handy for pulling the clothes out and lying them on it instead of some items dropping on the floor. It also means that the rubber door seal is not subjected to the severe wear and tear of a normal, glass door machine.
