ParticipantHello guys hope you can help me before forking out for costly reparis as already bought spares totaling £30 (seal, interlock latch cover)
number on door 51140931
Have no prior experience but confident learner and have used mulitmeter on my turntables before, i know its a different machine but still the similar priciples apply.
About a week ago it died on me and wouldn’t start at all, door shut ok but wouldn’t start and no light to confirm lock and opened freely, i googled for a while turning up it was most likley the door interlock, so today new one arrives along with new door seal as it was ripped and frustrating to get back on, but i did it and fitted the new interlock exactly as the other making sure the correct coloured wires matched the previous but to no avail, also tried fuze from working tumble dryer which works with both fuzes but still wont fire up, i inspected the chip board as best i can with torch and dont see any obvious blow out damage but there is an area hard to see right behind power on/off so could be there or a loose wire and requires taking more of it apart to see
hope someone can help without having to spend more money on call out or parts but this seems the case having already trying a new lock
thanks

The hole in the door seal will have leaked onto the door lock which will have blown tracks on the back of the control unit pcb. So not the same as a turntable by any stretch of the imagination. 😉

i see your point sir, i just wanted to illustrate ive used a multimeter before incase required to do so.
thanks for reply and on a fri eve too. maybe i’ll attempt to inspect board further i know its a costly item and be worth just getting a new machine if thats the caseFebruary 8, 2013 at 10:00 pm #389700iadom

If you are as capable with a soldering iron as you profess to be with a multimeter then you may be able to repair the damaged tracks. 😉
I do this every time with a 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} success rate, 8)

If you take out the control unit, having made a careful note of the connections if you remove them, you will see the damaged tracks at the front, top of the circuit board. It rarely damages the unit itself, just the tracks, it’s a choice between a very expensive control unit or a bit of careful soldering.

hi thanks alot for your help, found some of the info here before posting quite usefull too. there’s a controll unit itself on ebay for about £40, concidering i thought it would be arround £100 and god knows what the repair man will charge for any work i may take this on myself, or just grab the unit off ebay.
if i dont see any signs of damage (burns or broken copper track) what else could it be or is that to open to ask given you cant see the item up close?February 9, 2013 at 3:03 pm #389704iadom

I would stake my 44+ years of experience on you finding the tracks blown along the front edge of the control unit circuit board. 😉
There are several different control units used on the WM range, the Fleabay one may not fit your machine.
The correct part for your machine is a C00201739 or a 1603787. Cost new around £105.

your stakes are correct buddy thanks for part no’s, after a carefull inspection i can see clearly the very first copper track from the black block is blown to hell, thats the first of the black top wires, followed by blue green and red which are all fine, im not sure i can fix the board my self as ive never undertaken anything like this so its a call out but knowing what needs doing should speed things along or the board which i attempt to fit myself
do you know what this might cost to repair on average?
heres an upside down pic i found so its the bottom right track, blown right to solder joint

Hard for me to say, the range of charges that independent engineers make can vary widely, safe to say they are usually much less than manufacturers prices. You need to ring around or try our ‘find an engineer’ from the links on the home page.
I normally solder a short, thin piece of insulated wire to the lower end of the blown track, cut the black wire out of the connector block and join them together with a butt connector.
Good luck.

Suggests it is a different timer, unfortunately the Hotpoint manuals rarely included the timer manufacturers (AKO ) part number codes. The manuals for the WM 62 through to WM70 do not give this info.
I would be asking a local indie to get his soldering iron out. 😉

Or send the timer to EMW as part/ex?
