ParticipantJust collected my Hotpoint WT761P from Currys yesterday, all installed fine, then with about 10 mins remaining on the installation 95*c wash, it was speeing up during spin then an electrical pop was heard, a slight plastic burning smell and everything went off on the machine….
Will not turn back on, tried changinge the fuse, have looked under the lid, and behind access panel on the back doest appear to be anything thats “burnt” or “melted” however there was some grey dust on the rear plastic access panel near to where the motor is located is covered in a faint dark grey dust…
Any ideas what could be wrong becuase Hotpoint helpline are no help so far…. telling me im gonig to wait for 9 days for a repairer when im paying £4.49 a month to Currys for a protection plan that is supposed to guarantee a repair/exchange in 2 days!
Any one shed any light on the fault or where i can look to identify a fault?
Thanks!
Any help appreciated.May 21, 2007 at 8:35 pm #214440suedehead1
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WT761P DEAD!
I always advise people if it is under its guarantee do not touch it or you could invalidate the guarantee.
i dont know why you would want to pay currys £55 a year for a protection plan when the machine alredy has a 5 years parts guarantee.
i know what i would do, but they will still tell you that you need an engineers visit.
if you collected it did you install it properly.
if you collected it why dont you take it back.
i am sorry if this seems a bit strong but i dont know why anyone would accept shoddy treatment like this on a brand new machine.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WT761P DEAD!
It was installed correctly…. We phoned Currys yesterday and they told us that they couldnt take it back because they needed to get a recall number from Hotpoint.
I pay the for £4.49 a month plan so I dont have to pay the minimum £90 call out charge from the Indesit Company LOL
Am waiting for Hotpoint to ring tomorrow hopefully with some good news.
What is shoddy about the treatment? I cant do anything about it can I, if Currys say they cant take it back and the people at Hotpoint never ring back when they say the will!
Can you advise on any action I can take?
I’m going round in circles, much like that flipping 300 quid Hotpoint should be right now!
Thanks for the advice 😀

the first year is covered by parts and labour guarantee.
shoddy treatment is making someone wait 9 days for an engineer to call out.
sale of goods act, machine not fit for the purpose for which it was bought, ie. it doesnt work.
i dont tell people what to do i am only trying to help.
in 9 days time an engineer will call out and probably tell you what penguin has told you.
next question does he have the part? if not when will he get it when will it be fixed?
more importantly why has it gone faulty? will it go again?
you have bought a hotpoint but you have established that it is in fact an indesit.
i dont have anthing against these machines but they dont seem to be favoured in recent times.
i would phone trading standards myself.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WT761P DEAD!
Thanks… Will give hotpoint tomorrow to ring and arrange a decent repair/replacement date as the washing is really piling up here!
If they dont give us a decent date, I intend to drag the machine back to the store and have words…
Thanks for the advice

Participant9 days?
unnacceptable, in most circumstances
take it back to store.. dismiss the goods out of hand, and get a refund
go to comet and buy a bosch

Definitely,
At least Comet have their own service agents instead of passing you off to the manufacturer.

Thats the thing with these Hotpoints and Indesits, they can’t be trusted, too much a burden on the environent, if people want a decent machine they should buy a cheap Miele, rather than a Hotpoint or as i call them, an Indes*it. I feel very strongly on this huge problem and its a huge drain on the earths natural resources, Indesit should be told this, then people might put some trust back in to them.
Bring back the good old (British made) Hotpoint’s thats all i can say!!!May 22, 2007 at 6:16 pm #214449adamhornsby
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WT761P DEAD!
hey helo_75, Comet isnt that great, because they’re the most expenisve supplier of the Miele washer and dryer that we’re looking at, whereas the place we thought we would be the most expensive (Blackwell & Denton of York) is the cheapest place we’ve found, even cheaper than other places on the Internet

sorry helo_75, about that, but when they say they have the cheapest prices in their adverts and they don’t, its a bits misleading. Do you know where my nearest store is, i come from Whitley Bridge in North Yorkshire
