Can we have a photo of you riding your bike with a tub assembly tied on, Mike? 😆

Re: How to seperate sealled Drum

Shouldn’t be a problem if I ever do that. Have had the odd inner drum on the back in the past. Alternatively, I think Connect will do drop shipping?

when times are hard it,s 40 quid in your pocket or nothing. it’s a pretty simple job so I think I’d proberbly take the 40 quid.

Re: How to seperate sealled Drum

Wilf is talking about labour only. I think it may well happen that as time goes on the production of complete sealed drum units will become so normal that they’ll be almost as cheap to buy as a spider and bearing kit.
We’ll be able to wear suits to work when that happens and not get our hands dirty. 😆

stripping a tub apart and knocking bearings and changing spider is hard work but just to pull one unit out and put in another thats a different matter. I know most of my customers would proberbly balk at prices much over £125 all in. when it comes to it and I’m confronted with a sealed tub change I’ll see what happens. what I dont want to do though is to get involved with disposal of old tubs this could push the costs to BER.

Slightly off subject but it was a bit quiet today so I put a reconditioned wma tub into the chasis of of a wf range with a welded tub.

All works ok but the motor is different which is a bit of a concern as I dont want the module to go bang when under load.

Has anyone else done this and have they had any feedback from customers after installation?

So you put the WMA tub and WMA motor in. And everything else is WF?

Load it up with some towels and give it a whirl.

The topic was briefly discussed here:

Re: How to seperate sealed Drum

WMA tub in a WF body……WF electronics controlling WMA motor…..wiring loom to motor lengthened to suit motor hanging on the opposite side of the cabinet access panel……. 😯
Good God, Dr Frankenstein…it’ll all blow up!!! Or as Fraser would say “We’re doomed!!”

Well, it didn’t and it hasn’t…and it’s 2 years plus ago that my workshop towel washer had such a transplant. Partly to see and partly because I had 2 machines to hand; a WF super silent induction machine with a blown PCB and good 30mm drum (motor hangs right) and a WMT03 with good electronics. Had a spare early WF motor, so that went in. All fitted and has the preverbial kicked out of it twice a week.

If you asked if I would sell it on then that would be a different matter; probably not.
But, for the record, it can be done and it does work. Now I await the adverse comments…….but practical experience wins over theory.
But then someone once told me that you couldn’t possibly convert a Triumph Herald saloon into a Coupe as they were 2 completely different cars. And that cost him “Best coupe in Show” when it was finished….. You may have seen it – the only “E” reg Herald Coupe there is in maroon and white.

Seems to be working fine when tested. Havn’t tested it with a load yet.

Had to extend the wiring to the drain pump and the heating element and the pressure switch for obvious reasons.
Seems to be spinning the correct way helo_75.

Will let you know how my hybrid machine gets along with a load as the wf340 had a 1400 spin, the wma was 1200, could be a problem!.

It’ll be fine. Unlike the old GEC motors with their extra tag for the 1200 spin half – winding, all the WMA and WF use 7 tag connection blocks in the same configuration. In fact, the new motor available for the WMA replaces the Bosch, Ceset and FHP versions regardless of spin speeds.

Quick ID from model number suffix WE= welded drum & SC= split container e.g. WF100P/WE or WF100P/SC

Get the customer to tell you and possibly save a visit if you dont’t want the work!!!

    hi aqualectric,

thanks for the reply, have fully tested my WMA /WF machine with a load and yes spins up a treat. I now feel more confident when I install it for a customer.
