KeymasterCome on then, the front page update is all paid for, when is it going to happen?
The new server is paid for, when is the commisioning/testing likely to give us what we want………..more speed?
😆 have a nice weekend 😆ps, don’t bother phoning tonight, just answer the questions 😉

From Li yesterday evening:

If you feel that I’m qualified to compile binaries under a *nix OS I’ll give it a crack. We’ll be sat next Christmas waiting on me figuring it out though. 😉
Oh and there’s this whole business about MySQL and I think ASP, or some such thing, to be added.
The upshot is it’s a typical IT timescale. Take what you were given, multiply by a factor of ten, add a bit and you’re close.
Once the server is in place, no doubt a version of the Apache webserver, then we run the sites in tandem, hopefully in real time. Make sure it’s all okay…
flip the switch…
Pray! 😆

If I had the budget just to do everything, I would. I don’t and there’s no queue of people waiting to give me the money to get stuff done as fast as we would sometimes like so it comes down to priorities I’m afraid.

well not wanting to cause an issue or argument but wasnt the whole server business being funded from subscriptions ? Just seems to be dragging on and excuses being made for one reason or another. ok if its being done on a part time basis then its understandable but thats not the impression that has been made. ie its being done on a commercial pay the price and get the job done basis was my understanding and im sure others too ?

KeymasterNot at all.
The subscribers paid for the physical server not all the work at the back end to enable it. It was very clear.

One is not much use without the other is it? Yeah i know i can say whatever and you will have an answer 🙂 but by the same token this has been going on sometime now and really should be sorted !!!!

KeymasterWell, if some kind soul wants to pony up the cash I’ll have it done. If not then we’re on the timescale of others.
I don’t always have an answer you know. 😉

well didnt the funds from subscriptions lend itself to doing the whole project as thats what i thought as i said earlier was the case.
Maybe its a case of bung whoever a few more quid to get the job done ?
It aint that difficult and people can be easily led to believe it is 😉

Being one of the old boys that have been paying into the UKWSF from the start, I have no gripe with the support being given by the team. If you had been here at the start you would have seen how much this forum has grown and evolved. What was never predicted was the number of members and general public that now view the site. Numbers obviously equal slowness – speed equals dosh, so if you feel like giving the IT boys a bung please feel free to do so.

Makes no difference to how long someone has paid anything to wether they can make a comment on a given subject or not. Or am i wrong ? 🙂

No you are not wrong ,but do seem to be spoiling for an argument .
the point that is being made is that it was not foreseen how quickly the site would gain new members,Those of us that have been here from scratch never expected it be as good as it is perhaps.
Ken can the subscribers fund afford the labour req ?Lawrence

ok nope im not spoiling for an argument at all. The basic principals are that when you see the amount of hits on a site increase you look at it and say, right ok if things develop at this rate then we will need more bandwidth and depedning dedicated hardware to the job thats unfolding. Yep thats being done even though its taking time. My point is that if IT pro’s are involved and being paid for their services as pro’s then this should be done and dusted along time ago. And its easy to be fobbed off with techno bable as we ALL know 🙂
