When I worked at Philips it was a great place to work, Proper service environment, my team of engineers numbered 14 all hardworking experienced engineers who knew what they were doing, plenty of training over at Croydon. Then arrived Whirlpool, at first apart from the van livery there was little evidence that things had changed. Two years down the road it was a different story, Daily Job Numbers up ! Bigger areas to cover! Call Center staff who saw the engineers as lackeys and Management who had the view that if you cant do the job then I will get someone who will ! Then the flexy hours started, as Whirlpool could not get us to do these hours they recruited Ex Army and ( trained ) them, Orders are Orders,
As time went on the next step was to franchise service partners, engineers sacked, 48 Hour service Pledge that was not, reel forward to the shambles that was left and hour it is now and I will not be at all surprised to see this is how it will go with this new lot.

Or not, maybe they have decided Indesit’s service network would complement the planned increase in sales volumes, you have a known brand name to place on products and a network in place for the nice, newly badged quality products.

last i heard Indesit Service employes 700 or so full time engineers, they try to run a 60/40 split. far larger than what WP uk have, if i was a betting man looking at the size of WP uk id bet it would be integrated into Indesit rather than the other way, in the UK anyway,
WP can’t just loose all of that overnight, move it all to contract possibly over time, who knows. this is a big thing and no one will know how it will pan out
Edit, just spotted WP main EU office is also in Italy

I’m guessing WP will use Indesit engineers to repair WP products, maybe not straight away but as service contracts come to an end they won’t be renewed, having your own engineers gives you more control over aftersales service.

It will,as usual all come down to cost, and What they can screw everyone for! I dare say that they will play wp off against indesit and vise versa with the threat of job loses, franchises, contracts etc to drive down the price even lower before committing to anything with the promises of a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
As k says though it’s going to be interesting and it is uncharted waters but someone will be upset and someone will be busy fools and the chances are the only ones who will be happy are wp.Phil

I don’t think so and, I’m just spitballing here but…
We’ve all worked for or with big companies right?
Well, what happens when one department goes off to war with another trying to protect their positions or, even their jobs?
This one could be world class entertainment.

That’s an interesting one to watch! TBH, I don’t mind WP appliances especially built in dishwashers as they are fairly reliable and easy to repair. It’s the washing machines that lets them down.
It would certainly be even more interesting on what will happen to the parts especially pattern parts that are commonly found among Indesit appliances but Whirlpool and pattern parts seems few and far between.
Maybe the Americans wanted to invest in High Efficiency machines with more choices (aka front loader) for themselves bypassing the Chinese as we have strong market for those kind of machines? Perhaps it is a good thing that is going into private ownership reducing the chance to be taken over by the Chinese?
