ParticipantI have had problems with theis m/c in the past, and it has always been the continually rotating dial and error flashes.
This time however it is doing absolutely nothing. It was working ok, got to just before the first rinse and just started clicking round. Switched off and reset, expecting to get the error flashes and…nothing. The light flashes very quickly a couple of times like a normal startup and then comes on steady, but nothing else happens, no pump, no inlet valve, no drive motor. I have left it all day today and it hasn’t moved. However if I set it to the rinse cycle only, it clicks round to the spin symbol, but still nothing else.
Any ideas?

You could check the motor brushes, with the mains plug removed of course. 😉

Thanks a lot guys, that did the trick.
Sorry for the delayed reply but it took ages for the new brushes to arrive.

OK, not sure that there isn’t still something wrong.
I have replaced the brushes and as a quick check run a spin with an empty machine and all seemed OK.
I put a wash in and started a cycle but after about 10 mins there was an electrical burning smell, a bit like when a resistor on a circuit board burns. The machine still seemed to be working OK so I kept an eye on it and let the cycle finish. When I checked the smell seemed to be coming from the motor, and the motor is quite hot. Should the motor get hot?
The brushes I used were cheap pattern parts (£8 a pair) so could it be these that are taking time to bed in and arcing a bit?

Throw them away and get some proper ones, you may be lucky or you may have already damaged the motor.
Where did you get them from?

I got them from an Ebay trader, Appliancehelp.
I have Googled and found some at Espares for £15.99 that they say are genuine; does this sound right?

That was the first place I looked, but I can’t find any for my machine W123UK(BG). All the brushes listed don’t list any of the W123UK variants, the nearest is W123 with another number before the letters.

Problem is that there are three different motors used in these machines with three different types of brushes.
Doing an internet search for W123 UK BG brushes alone will not find the correct ones.
What make is the motor, CESET, or INDESCO ( there are two different Indesco motors )
PS, Some of those E Spares prices are around £10 more than the manufacturers list price. :rolls:

If the motor is an Indesco then THESE will be the ones you need.
For the CESET motor you need C00088352, an e-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should get you sorted. 🙂

I have the CESET motor. Have emailed as suggested. Thanks for your help.
