    Hi,

I have a Indesit WG1034T Washing Machine. Until now, we have had absolutely no problems. It is quite old, around 9 years I believe. Please don’t say buy a new one, as we would like this fixed if it is a small problem. It would save us a few bob.

When the machine is spinning, like a normal spin it makes a knocking sound, the faster it spins, the faster the noise gets.

When it is spinning really fast (super spin), the noise is not heard.

It makes the knocking sound with and without clothes loaded.

I do not have a clue as to what could be wrong, please could anybody advise me further on what to do, regarding parts, fitting..etc…diagnosis..etc

If any more details are required, please let me know.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Jas,
I’m just in the process of stripping my WG1234 down for a similar problem.Your problem is probably due to worn drum bearing.I’ve replaced mine but still have the same noise and now have been told its a broken spider mounted on the rear of the drum. This is a major task and I’m only carrying on as I have plenty of time on my hands but might eventually find its impossible to repair. If its the bearing and you’re a handyman its quite easy to replace them.Let me know if you want to attempt it.
    Steve.

Thank you for your replies Toolbox and helo_75.

Toolbox – Yes I will be attempting to resolve this myself, once I can find out what the exact problem is. I read somewhere on here I think or another forums, that it could well be the suspension which holds the drum in place. ❓

I don’t think its the bearing, as our old machine started to make a grinding/rumbling noise, when the mechanic came around, he just replaced the bearings and it was fixed, but this is going back when mechanics were cheap!

helo_75 – I haven’t yet opened my machine, I shall be doing this on the weekend when I have a whole day. Where is this weight found? What type of fault am I meant to find with it?

I am only hearing a knocking sound when its spinning around, when its spinning at maximum, the noise goes away, I guess due it spinning so fast.

Any suggestions from other experienced members would be helpful aswell.

    Thanks

    Jas.

Well I opened the machine, top and back panels were fairly easy to remove.

I couldn’t find anything wrong with the block on the top, the spider at the back of the drum wasn’t broken.

I couldn’t find a way to get to the bottom weight, apart from reaching with my hand, nothing seemed loose.

I must be honest, that I don’t know what I am doing here and some guidance would be helpful.

I don’t want to have to pay somebody to look at the machine, that is a last resort if I can’t fix it myself.

oh and its still making that noise.
    Thanks

The spider on the back of the inner drum may well be broken. One by one, bring the paddles down to the 6 o’clock position, then try and pull the drum forwards. Watch the edge of the drum in relation to the door seal – there should be no movement. You may well find that in one position, there is movement. This is because one of the arms has rotted through.

May I just point out that your respondents and myself are professional repairers, we provide this service as a courtesy to the public, and we do resent the “I’m not prepared to pay anything” approach. There is only so far an amateur can go, and there’s only so much information we are prepared to dispense.

    Stay safe, power off.

What paddles are you refering to? Do you have a diagram explaining this?

I appreciate your help, members in the trade and of other normal members here. I don’t mind paying a reasonable amount. I was quoted £150 to repair it. Now to me that is not reasonable. I know we all have bills to pay, but there is a line. So don’t get me wrong ok!

    Thank you for your help.

Open the drum, there’s 3 plastic paddles/baffles/lifters that knock the washing around.

If your drum is goosed, then £150 is about right. If it was £400 worth of machine, and it had a good motor, electronics, etc; it’s worth getting the job done. But on an Indesit…

…I’d recommend some type of large trebuchet 👿

lol. I might need to get a trebuchet after all.

The machine was £230 from comet, has lasted us nearly 10 years, so its done its job.

Tell me something, would the knocking sound I am hearing be a result of the drum being damaged?

I’ll have another look inside, time to get the post-it notes out. :rolls:

Does the inner drum cluck/crash/bang went you turn it by hand?

If it isn’t than goosed yet, try what Penguin has wrote above please.

    And unplug your m/c first!

    Okay,

The inner drum does not make those noises when I spin it by hand.

BUT, I tried what Penguin told me and I found something. I think one of the arms is broken, as when I move the inner drim, where you have the, I think its a paddle (you have three of them right?), two of them are ok, when I move the drum, the whole drum moves, but on one of them, you can feel it slightly tilting, just enough to make a knocking noise.

I think it might be if not part or the actual problem.

Infact I tested the machine again and I can also hear the knocking/banging noise on the underside of the drum/washing machine.

Can you or anybody give me a few pointers on how to remove the front of the machine? The top and back are pretty simple.

Also, can I tilt the machine? If so, which what and how much?

If fact, I would like to take that drum out and check if its broken.

how much would that particular part cost? Where can I buy it from?

Thanks, I think I am getting much closer to finding the actual fault, just need a few points on how to take it all apart now.

As always, the power is off.

    Thanks

Sounds like a broken arm at the back. Part number is C00040870 – inner drum and support complete; spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to get one for you promptly.

The entire tank assembly has to be removed for fitting, as the drum goes through the front.

I have moved the machine into the garage. Could you give me a few points on how to take it all apart?
