ParticipantI got the motor out, just needed a bit more force to pull it free.
The machine is nearly 4 years old.

Moderatorwell at 4 years old maybe
your motor seems to be
https://parts.hotpoint.co.uk/product…fans/C00507304its almost £122, But, the machine may be covered by a 5 years parts warranty. They give you parts for free and you just pay the labour which will be a similar amount. Also means any other part it needs will be fitted and they will guarentee the part fitted which you may not get if you fit yourself

ParticipantThanks. I opted to get a used motor from eBay, which came far quicker than an engineer could visit, and MUCH cheaper – £25.00.
Fitted and all is much much better. It washes, spins, etc. However the wash cycles are taking quite a bit longer than usual. I.e. a 55 minute cycle is around double that. The time indicator say sticks at 8 minutes for 5 minutes, then goes down to 6, then stays there for 5 minutes, then down to 1 minute for 5 minutes. Then it went back up to 15 minutes!
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Moderatoris it heating as you get no fault codes if the heater is not working but all the programmes go on forever ?
have you knocked a wire when you removed the motor ?

ParticipantThanks again. Wash cycles were not getting warm at all (feeling the glass door after 10 minutes).
Removed the back panel. All wires were in place. I removed the thermostat and tapped it a few times on a hard surface, put it all back together and voila!
However, after three loads the water did seem to get warm initially, but the cycle took a very long time to finish, seemingly running multiple rinse and spin cycles as it was before.
Is this most likely a thermostat fault or heating element?
March 28, 2020 at 10:13 am #467238electrofix
Moderatormay be a faulty connection to the stat
heaters normally either work or they dont. it is possible as you can never say they wont be intermittant but its less likely
tapping the stat should have no effect. Manual give a value of 20K ohms at 20 degrees C. So you can use a multimeter to measure it

ParticipantThanks for the advice. I will investigate further.
Good to be making progress, especially as our household is now ‘self isolating’ and a washing machine is a little more important than under normal circumstances!

one of the reasons i will still call out for a washing machine unless the houshold has symptoms

ParticipantHi,
I’ve fitted a new heating element and a new thermostat.
10 minutes in to a wash cycle, and the fuse tripped again.
Any ideas now?
Thanks.

Moderatorseems odd. was it a new heater ? or used
ok
try a few things. Have a good look at the wiring harness make sure its not rubbed through anywheretry a rinse cycle and see if it trips. If yes disconnect the wires to your heater, make them safe and try again

ParticipantIt was a dodgy connection on the new heating element, the connector wasn’t clicked on tight. NO tripping now.
First cycle complete with a fairly accurate program time (55 minutes). However the spin cycle, should take around 10 minutes has taken 20 minutes thus far. It spends a minute or two doing nothing, then spins again.
Could this be another fault, or is there anything I need to ‘reset’?
April 1, 2020 at 2:51 pm #467244HarrisonStewart
ParticipantIt’s now half way through its second wash, and it started flashing with the error code ‘F5’. Any ideas what to do next?
Thanks in anticipation.
April 1, 2020 at 4:19 pm #467245HarrisonStewart
ParticipantIt’s now doing the same thing again, i.e. seemingly looping the rinse and spin final part of the wash cycle repeatedly with long waits between it going from 16 minutes down to 10, then back to 16 again… is this a write off?

ModeratorF05 is preesure sw no registering empty
so that is why no spin
check filter for blockages
if clear find pressure switch at the top of the machine. Its got a thin tube coming off it. remove tube and blow down it to make sure its clear ( warning never blow into switch )
if thats clear. then open door,l put 2 pans of water in the machine, set machine on drain only and run. This is supposed to reset switch so it knows when its empty. Some dealers say it does not always work fors timeDave
