So, when you guys decline a job as it is too risky (or, lets face it more likely, time consuming.) do you just walk away unpaid or demand a payment for your call and wasted time? just wondering.

Odd thing is that any accusations or claims for damage I have encountered have all been for free standing appliances.

Well it’s fair to say that for the vast majority of integrated repair calls we all undertake on a daily basis, all are repaired very successfully. And that it is extraordinarily rare that access and repairs cannot be effected and that one perhaps has to ‘walk away’, as it were.

Speaking personally, in my 35 years I’ve only ever had two to my certain knowledge in that time and on both occasions no charge was made or implied.:D

I’m sure I speak for all those that have commented so far in this thread in that “demand a payment for a call and wasted time” is not a policy any of us would ever subscribe to. 😉

By eck, tha shud cum up north.

At a guess i would say that less than 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my calls are to integrated machines.

A lot of them are still in the skullery, the cellar, the pantry or the shed, even have the odd one, under’th sturs. 😆

I have walked away from several, all of which required smashing of expensive tiles, uplifting laminated floors, removal of central heating radiators or similar.

must admit I came up with that 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} figure off the top of my head. It is not unusual to have a full day of intergrated stuff though. Not that they all need to come out of their housings.
As I said earlier, I have had more problems with free standing than with Build ins. The thing is, once I have been called out, driven there and have an hour or so time booked to be there I am not going to turn around and leave for nothing without at least giving it a good go. If you make sure the customer is aware of the problems involved by pointing them out before hand and ensure they know that this is over and above your normal job duties they really do not complain about any damage.

    Exactly right Mark. 🙂

Yesterday, for example, I pointed out to my customer that I was less than happy over the prospect of dragging a Neff integrated washer over her cushion (type) flooring lest I tear it? She informed me that it wasn’t in fact stuck down and that once all the kickboards were removed it could be easily rolled clear…..easy peasey! 8)

i get on great with my customers however they are all told that if i cannot get the appliance out easily in 15 minutes then i’ll leave without payment but will return when it’s out. even when i get a verbal indemnity from damage, i’ll still refuse if there’s any chance of damaging something.

    Todays offering.

Whirlpool int washer installed beneath granite worktop.
Feet were no-nailsed to the floor to keep it still.
No problem, chiselled it off and wound up the feet still wouldn’t move.
Installer had no-nailsed a sheet of plywood to top of machine then no-nailsed that and jacked up the machine under the work top.

    It’s still there 😈

    Zanussi integrated washer/dryer.

The customer made a lovely cup of tea with some excellent little cakes.

I stood back and enjoyed these whilst he armed himself with a large crowbar then ripped the skirting boards from both sides of the units so that he could remove the plinth before taking up a decent sized section of the laminated floor. :rolls:

Finished my brew just as he got the last plank up. 😆

I had a D/W jacked up by 2 pieces of kick board, not laying flat but on there ends from front to back, too high for the feet to be extended and too high for boards to be laid flat.No tiles under the appliance and top of the appliance was touching base of the granite work top.

Kitchen floor was white tiles :rolls: the feet still present but made of metal, so I decided to walk away from that.
